Senior Property Accountant - New York

The Senior Property Accountant will take on a pivotal role in providing comprehensive accounting support to our property management teams and clients in the New York market. Your expertise and attention to detail will be instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing financial data, and providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making for our managed properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full monthly accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, variance reports, and other financial deliverables with exceptional accuracy and timeliness
  • Review and approve property-level invoices, ensuring compliance with client approval protocols and budget constraints
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts monthly, resolving discrepancies proactively
  • Process tenant billings, including operating expense reconciliations, escalations, and CAM calculations
  • Support annual budget preparation and quarterly reforecasts for assigned properties
  • Coordinate with property managers to provide financial insights that improve operational efficiency and property performance
  • Assist with year-end audit preparation and serve as a key liaison with external auditors
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, property teams, and vendors
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of property accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP accounting principles and real estate accounting practices
  • Proficiency with property management software (Yardi, MRI, or similar platforms)
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting systems and financial reporting tools
  • Strong analytical abilities with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to meet multiple deadlines
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience with complex commercial properties, including retail, office, and mixed-use assets

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification or active pursuit
  • Experience with construction accounting and capital projects
  • Knowledge of New York real estate market and property tax structures
  • Background in institutional-quality reporting requirements

Estimated total compensation for this position:

145,000.00 - 160,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
