Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager to lead and manage complex projects related to the manufacturing of critical components for submarine construction, with General Dynamics Electric Boat (GDEB) and Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding as our primary customers. The ideal candidate will bring strong project management skills, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to interpret both legacy 2D drawings and modern 3D models for Virginia Class and Columbia Class submarines. This role involves weekly customer interface, full P&L responsibility for assigned projects, coordination of subcontractors, and active participation in schedule and budget planning. The Project Manager will work closely with the Production Manager, but will not directly manage tradespeople.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for GDEB on assigned projects; conduct weekly status calls and maintain clear and consistent communication.
- Develop personal rapport with each contact, which will enhance the possibility of repeat business. Perform as the company representative for meetings with project/contract customers and suppliers to discuss changes in scope of performance or requirements, schedule conflicts, production delays, cost issues, etc.
- Project positive image (including, but not limited to: personal attire, mannerisms, language, technical competence, etc.) to employees, customers and similar industrial companies by ensuring a quality product is produced and delivered on time in accordance with the customer's requirements.
- Maintain full Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility for assigned projects, including tracking costs, managing budgets, and identifying risk and opportunity areas.
- Evaluate Metrics related to project cost, quality and schedule. Determine Corrective actions required. Evaluate ISO 9000:2001 metrics, establishing corrective actions as required.
- Provide regular schedule input and updates, ensuring project timelines align with contractual and production requirements.
- Coordinate the activities of subcontractors, ensuring alignment with technical requirements, schedule, and quality standards.
- Interpret and apply information from legacy 2D drawings (Virginia Class) and modern 3D models (Columbia Class) to support manufacturing planning and execution.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to align resources, budgets, and schedules; support resolution of conflicts and risks that may impact production.
- Monitor project performance and prepare reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders.
- Participate in planning and review meetings, risk assessments, and configuration control boards.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, industry standards, and internal procedures.
- Preparation of bids and quotes for delivery orders, purchase orders and contracts. Assist with the preparation and submission of proposals, reviewing technical content, personnel requirements, management plans and execution costs.
- Maintains a positive work environment through positive actions to affect morale, providing adequate opportunities for employee personal growth. Adherence to all federal, state, local and employment laws, and company regulations and policies.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience:
- processes associated with aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, and titanium, is preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to estimate jobs from blueprints and determine the cost of parts or the entire job including labor and materials.
- Preferred technical knowledge regarding submarine construction
- Candidate will have to perform in an ISO-9000 rated company in a rapidly changing and demanding atmosphere.
- Experience with successful LEAN improvement efforts, desired.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated interpersonal skills with personnel and customers.
- Demonstrated success managing budgets and schedules.
- Proven experience managing complex, high-precision fabrication or assembly projects.
- Familiarity with DoD customer interactions, particularly with General Dynamics Electric Boat or similar.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in project management in a defense manufacturing or aerospace/marine environment.
