Position description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator for the UC Irvine Climate Collaboration.

The Climate Collaboration is a campuswide effort funded by the Provost's Office to enhance interdisciplinary research, education and engagement focused on climate-related challenges. This initiative seeks to create opportunities for broad participation across campus and partnership with government agencies, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and communities. The Collaboration is charged with:



  1. Fostering cross-campus collaboration around UC Irvine's strength in climate and sustainability research.
  2. Supporting UC Irvine's carbon-neutrality goals.
  3. Raising the visibility of climate and sustainability initiatives at UC Irvine.
  4. Coordinating the development and enhancement of climate-related academic programs and community partnerships at UC Irvine.


The Academic Coordinator reports to the Director of the Climate Collaboration, Chancellor's Professor Brett Sanders, and works in coordination with faculty, staff, students and external partners to support programs, events, and activities. The Academic Coordinator will serve as a central administrator for the Climate Collaboration, acting within the policies and procedures of the University and School. Specific areas of responsibility, under the direction of the Director, include scheduling, event planning, meeting planning, website management, external and internal communications, coordination of proposal reviews, and assistance with proposal, report, and white paper preparation. The Academic Coordinator will also be responsible for creative thinking in all areas of work and contributing to the innovative and inclusive spirit of the Climate Collaboration. This is a fully in-person position that can accommodate occasional remote work.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Bachelor's level education in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Forestry, Geography, Hydrology, Environmental Policy, or a related field and two years of professional experience. Or Masters level education in a related field.

* Excellent organizational skills, including ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

* Experience coordinating logistics for meetings, workshops, or other events with both internal and external partners.

* Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

* Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

* Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration tools including Google Suite, Dropbox, Zoom and Slack.
