Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the research laboratory at the CCRC, will assist PIs with the implementation of a wide variety of multi disciplinary research protocols, and will assist the CCRC staff with non-licensed medical support specific to research protocol implementation, human specimen collection and laboratory processing of clinical research studies approved by the UC Davis Institutional Review Board (IRB). This position will also assist CCRC staff with daily operations, including supply inventory control/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, data entry, and registration. The incumbent will assist PIs with eligibility screening and consenting procedures, patient education, and staff training and development. The incumbent may be required to travel to sites within the Health System and community to perform duties. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, ICH/GCP guidelines, Health System policy and procedures, and CCRC standard operating procedures.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • CITI certification or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Certification in phlebotomy or must obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent or equivalent experience.
  • Several years demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting and must have prior experience performing clinical research (coordinator, regulatory).
  • Minimum 6 months in similar setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience performing simple and complex lab processing procedures and lab safety, including but not limited to Molecular Biology techniques such as genomic DNA isolation, restriction enzyme digestion, RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, standard and real time PCR, immunological, electrophoresis and biochemical techniques, SDS-PAGE, ELISA, RIA, enzyme assays, column chromatography, HPLC, and Luminex (Milliplex Assay).
  • Knowledge of the Experimental Subjects' Bill of Rights.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for effect on others by:

  • Skills to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, reports and legal documents.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing workload requirements as needed to enable the unit to fulfill its mission to investigators and research participants.
  • Knowledge to interpret a research protocol and apply its requirements in the laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines, and Federal Regulations applicable to clinical research and ability to learn and comply with Health System policies and procedures.
  • Skills to use computer to manage EMR and study databases, send e-mails and create documents; proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to transfer weight up to 50 pounds periodically, using proper upper body mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Health, Biological, or Nutrition Sciences-related.

Department Overview

The CTSC was established in 2006 through a $25 million dollar grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Comprised of several distinct scientific and educational programs, as well as shared resources and clinical facilities, the Center supports investigators across the School of Medicine and the UC Davis Main Campus to promote translational and interdisciplinary research and team science to improve human health. Nationally, UC Davis CTSC works with NIH and other funded CTSA hubs to develop and disseminate innovative resources and expedite the translation and integration of science from a variety of disciplines into health discoveries and treatments.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
