The Role

The Manager, Training Within Industry (TWI) is responsible for developing and leading the deployment of the TWI program across QuidelOrtho's Rochester manufacturing sites. This role focuses on building front-line leadership capability, improving job instruction and training consistency, and embedding standard work practices that support quality, safety, and productivity. Working in close partnership with Manufacturing, QIC, Quality, and HR teams, the TWI Leader ensures sustainable skills development and fosters a strong foundation for a continuous improvement culture.

This position will be onsite at our Rochester, NY facility.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert and champion for TWI Job Instruction (JI), Job Methods (JM), and Job Relations (JR) at the Rochester sites.

  • Design and execute a site-specific TWI deployment roadmap aligned with operational goals and the overall Continuous Improvement strategy.

  • Lead and facilitate TWI training sessions, coaching sessions, and workshops for operators, team leads, and supervisors.

  • Work closely with area trainers, production supervisors, and technical SMEs to create and maintain Job Breakdown Sheets and other training documentation.

  • Monitor and support the execution of standard work training and ensure integration with onboarding and cross-training efforts.

  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Manufacturing leadership to align TWI efforts with workforce development and employee engagement goals.

  • Track and report TWI metrics including training coverage, skill certification, quality impact, and time-to-proficiency.

  • Provide hands-on coaching to front-line leaders in applying effective people-management practices through Job Relations.

  • Serve as a key resource during Kaizen and problem-solving activities to ensure training and standard work are addressed.

  • Stay current on advancements in TWI methodology and other training best practices applicable to the life sciences industry.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable QuidelOrtho SOPs, ISO/FDA regulations, and safety requirements.

Individual

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in operations, training, engineering, or related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing or operations roles with direct experience in training or people development

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of TWI Job Instructions (JIB), Job Methods (JM), and Job Relations (JR) with proven experience coaching and training across a diverse workforce.

  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills; able to influence and train others at all organizational levels.

  • Skilled in developing training documentation, job aids, and visual standard work tools.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to track and analyze training data required.

  • Experience with LMS platforms and digital tools for training delivery, preferred.

  • Self-starter with a passion for developing others and a hands-on approach to training and improvement.

  • Knowledge of metrics development for training effectiveness, skill sustainment, and impact on operational performance.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience implementing or leading TWI-based programs

  • Experience in life sciences, medical device, or other FDA-regulated industries

  • Lean certification or experience with standardized work systems

  • Demonstrated proficiency and practical application of Continuous Improvement tools (Lean Manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, A3, Root Cause Analysis)

  • Proficient knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau)

Work Environment

This role is based at the Rochester manufacturing campuses and requires significant time on the production floor. Office work and training sessions will occur in both classroom and on-the-job environments.

Physical Demands

Position requires ability to lift up to 30 lbs. onoccasion. Up to 50% of time at production environment or lab, walking, standing, and sitting for periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Position requires use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $94,000 to 126,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
