I. Position Summary:
Under the supervision of department management, coordinates patient flow and scheduling in the Cardiac Ultrasound department.
Oversees the activities of the staff technologists. Provides training and technical assistance to staff within assigned work area. Performs all
types of Cardiac Ultrasound procedures including Transthoracic Echocardiograms, Treadmill Stress Echocardiograms, and Dobutamine
Stress Echocardiograms. Also assists the Cardiologist with TEE's (Transesophageal echocardiogram) in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit
(PACU) or Operating Room.
II. Major Responsibilities:
1. Under the general direction of the department management, coordinates the daily functioning of the Cardiac Ultrasound staff consistent
with Hospital expectations and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees. Relays work instruction from management.
3. Assists management in ensuring assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials, and methods.
4. Provides input to performance appraisals and disciplinary process.
5. Performs specialized or general procedures according to established departmental protocols.
6. Performs ultrasound procedures for Cardiac Ultrasound procedures and other specific areas as required.
7. Operates all types of Ultrasound equipment. Performs portable exams in various areas throughout the hospital to include the Operating
Room and Intensive Care Units. Records images and makes hard copies where applicable.
8. Uses Epic to schedule and complete exams as applicable. Completes preliminary reports in Epic.
9. Serves as a resource to sonographers, MDs, and students.
10. Assists in the care and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
11. Maintains a clean and safe work area. Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown to supervisor.
12. Provides proper patient care. Interviews patients for required information. Explains procedures to patients to ensure their
understanding, cooperation, comfort and to optimize test results. Positions patients as required. Exercises care when moving patients to
ensure their comfort and safety. Takes vital signs as required; informs physician of changes.
13. Maintains patient records and statistics accurately.
14. Labels sonograms properly to assist in diagnosis and to ensure correct identification. Provides test information to physicians. Notifies
physicians immediately of results revealing patient risks.
15. Maintain records, reports, and files as required or directed.
Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:
1. Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees. Provides training and technical assistance to employees
within the assigned work area. Assists supervisor in assuring that assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials,
and methods. Provides recommendations to manager or supervisor for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel. Relays work
instruction from the supervisor.
2. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
3. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an
environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
4. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
5. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
6. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
7. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
8. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

III. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Specialized post-secondary training equal to two years of college.
2. Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), including the RDCS (Registered
Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, under the ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) for cardiac specialties.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum of two (2) years of Echocardiogram experience.
2. Previous lead/supervisory experience.
3. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with coworkers, patients, and families.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency
in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The
competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with
position incumbents.
IV. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
Work is considered moderate. Position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment
