GENERAL SUMMARY: The Mental Health Therapy Assistant Manager provides on-site supervision and assignment of designated clinical and support therapy staff to ensure service-based patient-centered care, holistic assessment and coordination of interdisciplinary patient care planning, delivery, evaluation and referral processes. Engages in supervision/preceptoring/mentoring behaviors to assist staff in achieving optimum patient care with appropriate resource utilization. The Mental Health Therapy Assistant Manager supervises the Mental Health Therapy Staff in the delivery of patient care as described in Nebraska Statute 71-1, 132.05. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Interviews, hires, orients and evaluates assigned mental health therapy staff; conducts disciplinary meetings and completes performance documentation as appropriate. 3. *Assures the holistic assessment and coordination of interdisciplinary patient care planning, delivery, evaluation and referral for episodes of care. 4. *Collaborates with staff to determine the patient risk for untoward clinical outcomes and participates in planning appropriate interventions. 5. *Participates with Care Management staff in managing the patient's length of stay/transfer and collaborates with the Mental Health Therapy Staff, Care Management staff and/or Physician(s) in determining the level of care needed for the patient's continuum of care. 6. *Identifies patients at risk and accesses the care management team for coordination and length of stay management purposes. 7. *Conducts concurrent and retrospective reviews of patient care and addresses any areas of deficiency with assigned staff. 8. *Assures the prioritization of patient/family needs by facilitating the synthesis and decision-making of the interdisciplinary team towards desired outcomes (clinical, functional, cost and satisfaction). 9. Assists in activities to resolve any patient, family, service provider or physician concern or complaint. 10. *Provides leadership in bedside problem solving, team collaboration and communication of decisions which impact patient care and outcomes. 11. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work. 12. *Assures appropriate staffing of assigned unit(s) for both the safe and efficient delivery of patient care and cost effectiveness; promotes retention of staff through rounding, recognition and promotion of teamwork. 13. Utilizes outcome data to modify service delivery and treatment programs that will more effectively meet the needs of patients. 14. *Responsible for assuring that staff complete required education/training and for validating and recording therapy staff's competencies. 15. *Ensures assigned staff conform with all oversight, regulatory and legal requirements including Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Medical Center procedures. 16. Engages in mentoring behaviors to assist in the professional development of Mental Health therapy staff. 17. *Develops and facilitates new employee and student orientation for assigned units; oversees/provides student supervision; communicates education and/or competency needs of staff on assigned units to Mental Health Therapy/Social Worker Manager. 18. *Clearly defines, communicates, delegates and monitors staff work assignments and compliance with Medical Center procedures, mission, vision and beliefs. 19. Engages in assigned hospital meeting, clinical and organizational meetings as appropriate. 20. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education inservices, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing developmental opportunities. 21. Utilizes Trauma Informed Care Principles. 22. Performs other related duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*". Attach Addendum for positions with slightly different roles or work-specific differences as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of the principles and practice of social work and supportive and group counseling techniques. 2. Knowledge of Family Systems Theory including cultural diversity and the impact of chronic illness and disability. 3. Knowledge of crisis intervention methods. 4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 5. Skill in conflict diffusion and resolution. 6. Ability to perform appropriate interventions with all age groups and with individuals of various cultures. 7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 8. Ability to work as a member of an inter-disciplinary team and act as a patient/family advocate. 9. Ability to balance and prioritize diverse clinical and supervisory responsibilities. 10. Ability to schedule, direct, counsel and evaluate employee work and performance. 11. Ability to schedule and maintain appropriate staff coverage for assigned areas. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a School of Social Work required. Licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the State of Nebraska required. Minimum of two (2) years experience in Mental Health, Social Work or related occupation required. Prior supervisory experience desirable.
