ABOUT THE JOB

The Accounting Manager plays a key leadership role within the WaterSurplus division, overseeing a team of accounting professionals and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations. This position is responsible for sales tax compliance, preparing journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, supporting audit processes, and managing both routine and complex accounting transactions. As a highly visible role within the organization, the Accounting Manager serves as a critical liaison between the division and broader financial leadership.

Responsibilities



  • Account Reconciliations and Journal Entries: Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries and complete reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts. Review journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by staff.
  • Audit: Assist with internal and external audits, preparing support schedules and providing documentation to support transactions.
  • Financial reporting and accounting: Assist in the preparation of timely financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Financial control policies and procedures: Comply with financial control policies and procedures as defined by the company.
  • Process Improvements: Continuously assess processes to identify areas for process improvements.
  • Revenue Recognition: Implementing and following proper accounting procedures in accordance with ASC606 regarding project accounting, revenue recognition, and percentage of completion accounting.
  • Routine Activities: Assist with maintaining the Company's Chart of Accounts in WinnMan including setup of object accounts. Complete personal property tax returns, unclaimed property filings, annual report filings, and various recurring analysis to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Tax Activities: Prepare work papers to support the annual tax provision, federal and state income tax returns, and quarterly estimated income tax payments. Oversee state sales tax return filings, rate changes, and other law changes. Monitor business expansion to determine new areas the company may be required to file in. Work with Corporate Accounting as required to perform the tasks above.
  • Staff Development: Conduct periodic performance reviews, ensuring staff members have accurate job descriptions, training plans, performance development plans and are cross trained on key tasks.
  • Non-routine Activities: Assist the finance department in various analytical projects as needed.
  • Sarbanes Oxley Control Owner: Ensure Sarbanes Oxley controls related to areas of responsibility are properly documented, changes are communicated, and controls are adhered to.
  • Additional responsibilities include overseeing fixed assets, leases, accounts payable, invoicing, credit and collections.


ABOUT YOU



  • 4- year degree (BA, BS) in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • 5 + years relevant experience demonstrating strong analytical skills, ability to foster cross-functional working relationships, and capacity to handle multiple priorities and projects.
  • 3 + years supervisory experience, leading and managing a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Experience with accounting in an ERP system preferred.
  • Ability to achieve results independently and within a team setting.
  • Ability to multitask and work well while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Proven analytical ability.

Travel:

Minimal travel required

Expected Compensation: $110,000 - $141,300 base + 10% bonus eligibility
