Job Description

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Senior Manager to join the North America Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) team in a cross-portfolio role (commercially available products + pipeline) to drive and support HEOR strategy and related tactics in the disease areas of Pain, Cystic Fibrosis, Hematology, Kidney Disease and Type-1 Diabetes. This person will work in a cross-functional team environment, interfacing with key internal groups including Market Access, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Health Policy and Alliance Management, and others, to execute on a seamless plan for communicating the holistic value of Vertex products throughout the lifecycle to various external stakeholders including Payers, Health Systems, and Policymakers. This person is expected to exhibit a strong sense of urgency to achieve corporate objectives while maintaining the highest ethical, regulatory and scientific standards. This position reports to the Head of North America HEOR.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and update external customer-facing value demonstration tools (e.g. budget impact models, value propositions, prevalence estimators, clinical and economic reactive decks, talking points, etc.) that meet regulatory standards and train and certify appropriate field teams (e.g., Field HEOR, Payer Account Team) for effective and compliant delivery

  • Represent North America HEOR at cross-functional team meetings

  • Support customer collaborative research opportunities with U.S. Payers and Health Systems

  • Lead the development and approval of customized responses for U.S. Payers in partnership with HEOR and Medical Affairs; perform literature reviews and collate available data to build a compelling value story

  • Identify and execute innovative HEOR solutions that are necessary to support access and reimbursement in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Work closely with Global HEOR team to inform evidence generation and publication plans from the U.S. and Canadian perspective and to ensure timely translation of HEOR studies for external value communication to customers

  • Track and synthesize evolving HEOR, Market Access, and Policy landscape where relevant for HEOR department

  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by creating summaries of U.S. evidence gaps, U.S. customer insights, competitive insights, etc.

  • Support head of North America HEOR, facilitating intra-departmental and cross functional collaboration, managing critical initiatives at the direction of HEOR leadership, as well as championing operational excellence across therapeutic areas in collaboration with HEOR operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (e.g. PhD, PharmD, MPH, MS) in the field of Health Economics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Biostatistics, or related discipline

  • Typically requires at least 6 years of professional experience in HEOR or related discipline

  • U.S. market experience required

  • Demonstrated capabilities in understanding the 2018 FDA Payor Guidance on Healthcare Economic Information Exchange (HCEI) and pre-approval information exchange (PIE)

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to effectively present to both internal and external audiences

  • Results oriented and excellent analytic and project management skills

  • A strong sense of urgency and commitment to patients

Pay Range:

$144,000 - $216,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
