Job Summary

This position supports site Operations by keeping production equipment and facilities equipment operating. The Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance activities including preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, installation, and set-up on pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or packaging equipment and systems. Additionally, will provide maintenance support to production personnel during the operation of manufacturing and packaging equipment and systems.

Primary Responsibilities



  • Set-up, maintain, and modify manufacturing/packaging and facilities equipment as required.
  • Diagnose and perform routine troubleshooting and repair work on equipment, utilities, and mechanical control systems as assigned.
  • When circumstances dictate, set-up and operate machine shop equipment including lathes, vertical/horizontal milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders and polishers, band and cut-off saws, and miscellaneous hand power tools.
  • Perform standard shop computations relating to dimensions, tooling, feeds, speeds, layout and check work in process using various precision measuring devices to obtain close tolerances and maintain quality standards.
  • Work under limited supervision and must be able to interpret and carry out detailed written or verbal instructions including work orders, blueprints, drawings, and sketches related to the operation, maintenance, repair, or modification of production and facilities equipment control and power systems while exercising judgment and discretion in the most advantageous manner.
  • Possess knowledge of working properties of common-stock materials, metallic and non-metallic.
  • Use special tools, jigs, or fixtures, as necessary to accomplish desired results.
  • Disassemble equipment for repair, maintenance, modification, and/or training; reassemble the equipment, and check for proper operation.
  • Ensure compliance with cGMPs, OSHA, DEA, and any other regulatory guidelines and Company policies that may apply.
  • Braze, torch cut, weld, or silver solder as required; Design, build, and/or procure parts as needed for both maintenance and quality/cost-driven projects.
  • Train maintenance staff as required, to operate, repair, maintain, and/or modify production and facilities equipment. Provides technical solutions to daily production and facilities problems.
  • Create, review, audit, and edit applicable maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Train manufacturing, packaging, and facilities equipment operators on matters relating to improved equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Perform other related assignments and duties as required and assigned.


Education and Experience Requirements



  • Six or more years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical/food production or a similar industry.


Preferred



  • A.A.S in Instrumentation/Industrial Electronics Technology or closely related area combined with and four or more years of relevant experience.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Demonstrated experience in instrumentation, electronic, and electrical power maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of high-speed pharmaceutical/food production or a similar industry and facilities-related equipment and systems including, but not limited to hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic power and control devices.
  • Must be able to assess power and control issues, formulate and evaluate possible solutions, and implement changes as required.
  • Must possess good communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Experience with PLCs, ladder logic, as well as all types of electric and pneumatic instrumentation including all phases of traceable calibration programs.
  • Must have knowledge of cGMPs, OSHA, and other regulations related to and pertaining to safe, efficient, effective, and compliant plant equipment operation and equipment repair in a pharmaceutical/food production facility.


Preferred



  • Demonstrated advanced or expert level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in oral solid dose (OSD) pharmaceuticals. OSD process areas included: Pharmacy/Dispensing, Granulation/Blending, Compression, Bead Coating, Extrusion, Encapsulation, and Coating; Packaging Serialization.



Supervisory Responsibilities (if Applicable)

No positions are reporting to this position.

Physical and Environmental



  • Occasionally move/traverse, ascend/descend step ladders, stairs, and/or platforms.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment including PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator).
  • Occasionally, transport materials using manual, and power-assisted vehicles including manually pushing and pulling drums, totes, boxes, and pallets.
  • Pulling, pushing, or twisting to remove equipment shields, parts, and panels. Equipment and parts may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work a 10.5 hour per day/4-day work week; 40 hours per week with overtime as required.
  • Position may require being "on-call" and working some weekends.
