Position Description and Purpose:

The Sanitation Manager is responsible for developing and directing the plant sanitation programs and ensuring that all current Food Safety Standards are being met throughout the facility. They will be responsible for training and developing all sanitation staff to be able to identify and control GMP issues and to enforce all current food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sanitation Program Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive sanitation program that meets all regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA).
    • Ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards.
    • Regularly review and update sanitation protocols to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Manage, train, and mentor the sanitation team to ensure proper execution of sanitation tasks.
    • Schedule and assign daily tasks to sanitation staff, ensuring optimal coverage and efficient operations.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members.
  • Facility and Equipment Cleaning:
    • Oversee the cleaning and sanitization of production equipment, floors, walls, and other surfaces in accordance with the established sanitation protocols.
    • Ensure that all cleaning materials and chemicals are used correctly and safely.
    • Conduct regular inspections to verify that sanitation standards are being met.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all sanitation activities, including cleaning schedules, inspections, and corrective actions.
    • Prepare reports on sanitation performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures.
    • Ensure that all sanitation logs and documentation are up to date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about the latest regulations and standards related to food safety and sanitation.
    • Coordinate with quality assurance teams to ensure that sanitation practices align with overall quality standards.
    • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
  • Safety Management:
    • Promote and enforce a safe working environment by following and enforcing safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct safety training related to sanitation practices and chemical handling for all sanitation staff.
    • Investigate and report any accidents or safety incidents related to sanitation activities.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements in sanitation practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Implement new technologies and methods to improve sanitation outcomes.
    • Collaborate with other departments to streamline operations and achieve overall facility goals.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or related field required or a combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a sanitation role within a food processing or manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Strong understanding of sanitation practices, food safety regulations, GMPs, and HACCP. Knowledge of chemical safety and usage.
  • Understanding of allergen and microbiological control practices and GMP compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
  • Must have demonstrated organizational and planning skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated SQF implementation skills a plus.
