Salesforce is growing its AI organization. The pace of innovation and the AI products and capabilities launched by Salesforce in the past few years has been phenomenal, with Agents and Agentic workflows powering all of our CRM offerings.

Salesforce's AI Platform brings the revolutionary generative AI technology to Salesforce CRM business at scale. The AI Platform team is looking for a Sr Director to lead an exceptional ML engineering team to build and enhance the multi-tenant, B2C scale, services that power generative, predictive, assistive & autonomous AI workloads. You will bring in your knowledge of supporting Large Language Models (LLMs) and developing large-scale distributed systems to support Agentforce and other AI/ML use cases at Salesforce. You will lead vision, long-range planning, and execution in partnership with product management for a portfolio of AI capabilities for end-customers, internal cloud teams, and for our Salesforce ecosystem. You will attract, develop, and retain the next generation of leaders and top talent for Salesforce AI centric engineers, and support their professional growth. You will partner closely with global product leadership, and collaborate across geographies, to build products and an ecosystem that will shape the future of AI + Data + #1 CRM.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Agentforce, Data Cloud and other AI Platform teams and customers in building world-class ML inferencing services to support billions+ inferences per week.

  • Lead the planning, development and maintenance of high-quality and highly available AI services

  • Partner with Product Managers, Technical Program Managers to closely track progress across multiple workstreams and delivering goals for varying stakeholders

  • Retain top talent within the teams; hire top talents; invest in continuous employee development of high-performing teams and have a passion for team and team members' success

  • Effectively communicate and foster collaboration in the team

  • Identify opportunities and improvements in the processes and culture of the teams and the larger engineering organization

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in cloud-scale architectures, software development, PaaS, and IaaS (AWS, GCP, Azure), especially with their AI/ML systems.

  • Experience leading large-scale distributed systems, microservices, and/or distributed architecture.

  • 7+ years of management experience, including leading leaders and managers.

  • Proven ability to hire, mentor, and lead engineers and managers.

  • Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Ability to communicate requirements with users, technical teams, and product management.

  • Experience influencing architectural vision and roadmap with other architects

  • Rapidly learn new technologies and possess strong presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.

  • Experience with short release cycles, full SDLC, and publicly released products.

  • Proficiency in software engineering best practices: coding standards, code reviews, CI/CD, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • A related technical degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lead organizations and/or hand-on experience architecting/developing solutions built on AWS Sagemaker/Bedrock. Google Vertex, Azure ML or similar AI/ML platforms

  • Expertise in delivering projects even when faced with ambiguity

  • Startup mindset in identifying the right functionality for our customers, quick development cycles, and iterations to meet customer needs.

  • Master's degree.

In office expectations are 10 days/a quarter to support customers and/or collaborate with their teams.

For Washington-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $230,700 to $351,800. For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $251,900 to $384,100.
