CRS Nurse Manager provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $151,600 - $241,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The clinical component of CTSI, Clinical Research Services (CRS) integrates the activities of multiple clinical research sites that provide adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient clinical services to support the translation of promising clinical research ideas into successful protocols. CRS provides an array of core research services such as adult and pediatric nursing services, phlebotomy, and biospecimen processing.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Master's degree in Nursing if Bachelor's is in a different discipline
  • 3+ years of experience working as a registered nurse of which 1+ years of experience is in a unit leadership role (i.e., manager, supervisor, or charge nurse) in an acute care medical center.
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinical research staff (RN, HAs, schedulers, etc.) and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic(s) / center(s).
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations and problem solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in nursing or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of EPIC/Apex EMR systems.
  • Ability to effectively administer biotherapeutics.
  • 2+ years of experience working in clinical research (i.e., clinical role or as a study coordinator).
  • CITI (Human Subject and GCPs or ability to obtain within one month of hire)
  • ACRP certification in Clinical Research or CCRC certification
  • ACLS certification

License/Certification


  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • BLS certification
  • ONS certification Chemotherapy and Biotherapy or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • APHON certification for Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
