Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides comprehensive health care for assigned patients/community as determined by scope of practice guidelines and specialty. This includes completion of a health assessment, determining diagnosis, planning and prescribing treatment within the parameters of medical staff privileges at UI Health and area of expertise. The APRN participates in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents and other health care disciplines.

The APRN is required to have and maintain a faculty appointment in order to receive clinical privileges to practice at UI Health.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the care of patients within the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility within the parameters of medical staff privileges.
  • Perform physical exam and record findings.
  • Obtain relevant patient health history. Study and interpret patient tests and records.
  • Review medical records for follow-up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Perform various diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic procedures and/or order special screenings and developmental or laboratory tests to diagnose conditions; interpret results.
  • Conduct fertility consultations and counseling, and educate patients and families on infertility evaluations, medications, and treatment protocols.
  • Support the PACU environment pre- and post-egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and hysteroscopy.
  • Consult with supervising physicians and other clinicians based on patient assessments and findings, and establish effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Collaborate with physicians to establish fertility treatment plans for families in need of reproductive services.
  • Prescribe/order appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and develop a treatment plan.
  • Order appropriate consultation/referral.
  • Determine the effectiveness of the treatment plan with documentation of treatment provided and patient outcomes.
  • Reassess and modify plan with patient/family and treatment team within the parameters of medical staff privileges.
  • This role includes on-call responsibilities in a shared rotation with other Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and Registered Nurses (RNs), which involves answering patient emergency calls after hours, but not after 10 PM.
  • Perform efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
  • Assist with scheduling of patients for upcoming procedures, including coordinating with other services (division, departments) and completion of necessary documentation, scheduling forms, and clearance.
  • Participate in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare disciplines by being involved in case conferences, serving as a preceptor and mentor, and assisting with curriculum development and instruction.
  • The Advanced Practice Nurse is required to have and maintain a faculty appointment in order to receive clinical privileges to practice at the University of Illinois Health System.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
  • Graduation from accredited APRN program.
  • Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois required.
  • Current BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications
  • REI or Women's Health experience preferred
  • Experience working in an academic medical center
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective collaboration skills that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physicians, APRN providers, other
  • colleagues and hospital leadership, and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Schedule flexibility
