Primary Purpose of the Organization: |
Student Health Services provides quality health care for students enrolled at Fayetteville State University. Student Health Services promotes and maintains conditions conducive to healthful living, guides and encourages students to accept health as a positive value of life, and stimulates an interest in students to make healthy adjustments to their environment. Activities of Student Health Services are conducted with special emphasis on promoting the nine dimensions of wellness and good bio-psycho-social health care. Student Health Services has the mission of serving as the student's initial contact for assessing health problems or concerns. Students are provided with reasonable quality health care for minor illnesses and injuries and are referred to specialists or consultants when necessary. Each healthcare visit is used as an opportunity for health education. Student Health Services provides student-centered medical and wellness services that are affordable and accessible. Utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to wellness and health care. Provides an environment of inclusion, respect, and appreciation of diversity. Promotes professional excellence, responsiveness, and ethical practice. Student Health Services supports the university's educational, research, and service missions.
The Pharmacist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care services within the Student Health Clinic to support the physical and mental health needs of the student population. This role is responsible for safely dispensing medications, ensuring compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations, offering medication counseling and education, and contributing to public health initiatives such as vaccination campaigns. The pharmacist collaborates with providers, nurses, and administrative staff to promote safe, effective, and student-centered care. |
Primary Purpose of the Position: |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Dispense and verify prescribed medications in accordance with legal and clinical standards.
- Counsel patients on proper medication use, side effects, drug interactions, and storage.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, including DEA regulations and Board of Pharmacy rules.
- Maintain accurate and secure pharmaceutical records consistent with HIPAA, FERPA, and institutional policies.
- Participate in inventory management, including ordering, storing, and disposing of medications and controlled substances.
- Oversee medication storage areas to ensure proper labeling, security, and environmental conditions.
- Support immunization programs by preparing and/or administering vaccines (as allowed by state licensure).
- Provide drug information and guidance to providers and clinic staff as needed.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to medication safety, emergency response, and infection control.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure readiness for accreditation reviews (e.g., AAAHC).
- Support continuity of care, including coordination with off-campus pharmacies and healthcare providers.
Working Conditions:
- Clinic-based setting within a college or university campus
- May require occasional evenings during peak academic or public health periods
- May involve standing for extended periods and handling of medications and vaccines
- Compliance with infection control protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: |
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited program
- Current and unrestricted state pharmacist license
CPR certification (BLS)- Certification in immunization delivery (e.g., APhA immunization training)
- Strong knowledge of clinical pharmacy practice and student health needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical and legal standards

Analytical Skills: Pharmacists must be able to evaluate prescriptions, identify potential drug interactions, and provide accurate information to patients. Problem-Solving Skills: Pharmacists need to be able to identify and resolve problems related to medication dispensing and patient care. Interpersonal Skills: Pharmacists need to be able to interact with patients in a compassionate and understanding manner. Attention to Detail: Pharmacists must be meticulous and pay close attention to detail when dispensing medications. Computer Skills: Pharmacists rely on computer systems to manage prescriptions, access patient information, and perform other tasks. Knowledge of Pharmacology: A thorough understanding of medications, their uses, and potential side effects is essential. Customer Service Skills: Pharmacists need to be able to provide excellent customer service to patients. Ethical and Professional Integrity: Pharmacists must adhere to a high standard of ethical conduct and professional responsibility. Time Management: Pharmacists need to be able to manage their time effectively to ensure that patients are served efficiently. Adaptability: Pharmacists need to be able to adapt to changing situations and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Previous experience in ambulatory care, college health, or public health settings
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and pharmacy dispensing software
- Experience working with diverse student populations
