Job Title: Director of Operations

Department/Group: Operations

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Reports to: Sr. Director Operations

PCI is focused on providing industry leading customer service to grow market share in the pharmaceutical contract packaging industry. Providing an excellent customer experience is critical to the success of the business. Key to creating this experience is reliably and safely providing high quality products when the customer needs it at a competitive cost. Effective operating performance, a drive towards continuous improvement, and strong processes at the Philadelphia Site and throughout the supply chain is critical to PCI's longevity and competitiveness.

This position is accountable for leading the operating team in achieving industry leading performance and creating a continuous improvement culture focused on driving/delivering improvements in safety, quality, customer experience, and cost. Reporting into this position are Operations, Maintenance, and dotted line responsibility of Engineers. This position will collaborate with the other Operation Leaders and cross functionally to deliver overall site goals, implement improved systems/processes, and develop site capability to support growth. Critical to success will be fully engaging the entire work force (managers to packers) in making improvements, maintaining regulatory compliance, and assuring an excellent customer experience while supporting fast growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers excellence in safety through personal daily visible engagement, supporting system implementation, driving accountability, and a behavior focus.
  • Leads and drives Quality improvements by understanding root causes through use of systemic tools and creates/tracks/monitors corrective and preventative actions. Engages all levels of the organization in these processes.
  • Manages and leads on time operational commitments to the customer.
  • Ensures proper support of new product launches.
  • Utilizes lean/six sigma tools to systemically drive continuous improvement and create a continuous improvement culture.
  • Establishes the strategic direction and supports the implementation of standardized business practices at the RLR facility.
  • Manages all operational aspects of their area of responsibility including productivity, cost, continuous improvement, and daily business processes.
  • Developing and achieving annual budget for their areas of responsibility.
  • Establishes, supports, and assists in the implementation and execution of best practice processes such as lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, CAPA, ERP/JDE, etc.
  • Provides leadership for problem resolution to facilitate rapid improvements and improved communications and working relationships.
  • Ensures all personnel in their areas of responsibility receive necessary and appropriate training for their job function.
  • Hires and develops direct reports through ongoing coaching and performance management.
  • Ensures management and development of all salaried personnel in their area of responsibility to include necessary hiring, discipline, rewards, and recognition.
  • Goal setting for their areas of responsibility.
  • Effectively manages union relations including hiring, discipline, rewards and recognition, and grievance handling.
  • Is highly visible on the manufacturing floor supporting/leading continuous improvement efforts and engaging with employees at all levels of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; staffing, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Logistics, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, or related field,
  • 10 years of progressively increasing managerial experience in a production environment. Six Sigma and Lean certification or working towards certification preferred. Proven accomplishment in Lean/6 Sigma techniques to lead continuous improvement efforts through effective problem solving and implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in regulated manufacturing, packaging preferred. (Form fill seal equipment, vial/bottle labeling, etc.)
  • Highly motivated individual with strong data analysis skills.
  • Proven accomplishment in managing multiple departments and projects.
  • Ability to coach/mentor
  • Ability to clearly communicate across multiple shifts and to all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to collaborate/lead across multiple shifts/departments/sites.
  • Hands-on and highly visible on the floor.
  • Experience in a Union environment a plus
