Purpose of Position
Leads group work activities, supervises, coordinate and reviews the work of a group of engineers. Estimates personnel needs, schedules and assigns work.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assists the Mechanical Engineering department manager with the followings:
- Provides input for budgets, bids and proposals, and schedules.
- Estimates personnel needs, scheduling and assignments to meet completion dates.
- Statuses task completions as required for all open projects.
- Provides support for proposal fact finding.
- Writes annual work review for each person under her/his supervision; recommends promotions and levels of salary increases.
- Provides instruction, teaching and development of employees.
- Provides technical leadership to engineers.
- Monitors employee assignments to completion.
- Directs and motivates employees to meet goals and objectives.
- Interviews and recommends hiring.
- Participates in data interchange and bids meetings with vendors and customers.
- Schedules and assigns work in the above areas.
- Exhibits and practices professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers.
- Interacts within a cooperative environment through beneficial behavior, commitment to common goals, contribution to problem solving, communication of ideas and suggestions, and encouragement to other employees and departments.
- Accountable for the control and distribution of documents and or equipment subject to export control restrictions and the security of FSI materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FSI products.
- Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
- Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.
- Directly supervises 5-20 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizationA's policies and applicable laws. Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Education
- Associates degree in Mechanical Design or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge and expertise required for this level usually results from progressive experience. However, selection for this position is based on the demonstrated ability of the person to successfully fulfill the requirements.

- Knowledge of Military Programs
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- 2D and 3D CAD, preferably AutoCad and SolidWorks. Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
- Sufficient software knowledge to technically interface with the department engineers.
- PCA's and basic office equipment.
- Fluency in English, through both verbal and written communications; Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
- Able to work with mathematical concepts used in solving static, dynamic, and stress anaylsis. Able to apply advanced mathematical concepts using, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and their apppications. Knowledge of the principles of solving complex problems using computational methods.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Valid Drivers License, where applicable.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
