Modern Technology Solutions, Inc.
tuition reimbursement, 401(k)
Jul 22, 2025
MTSI is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support a large-scale digital transformation initiative with our AFRL customer at Wright-Patterson AFB. You will lead the planning and technical execution of complex IT infrastructure projects-including deployments as large as small-scale data centers-and will play a pivotal role in establishing support and helpdesk frameworks. This role will play a key role in the architecture, management, and security of enterprise IT infrastructure with a focus on virtualization, automation, and Linux systems.
This position requires advanced experience with Red Hat technologies, Nutanix or VMware platforms, and network integration in multitenant environments. This role requires deep understanding of DoD-specific IT environments, including the RMF process, cybersecurity standards, and managing classified IT projects. This role will work directly with dozens of small research groups, with highly specific needs. This candidate will work across various teams and with directorate-level government stakeholders to onboard these groups to a centralized network environment. Candidates should have a proven record of delivering high-impact IT projects within classified DoD environments, including the integration of cross-domain solutions (CDS), Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC), TTC/TTCR, High Speed Guards, and Trusted Gateway Systems. Experience with Everfox (formerly Forcepoint) products is highly desirable.
This position is based at WPAFB. The ideal candidate is resourceful, highly organized, capable of working independently, and thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment with ever-evolving priorities.
Responsibilities
Duties to be independently executed include but are not limited to:
  • Lead and manage full lifecycle of IT projects to ingest independently working research groups to a modern, centralized network.
  • Administer and maintain virtualized environments primarily on Nutanix AHV and/or VMware ESXi.
  • Design, implement, and support complex infrastructure solutions in both production and multitenant environments.
  • Manage and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems with advanced tooling such as Satellite, Identity Management (IDM), and Ansible Automation.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and performance tuning across operating systems, virtualization platforms, and networked systems.
  • Collaborate with networking teams to ensure seamless integration between systems and Cisco/Dell-based infrastructure.
  • Automate system tasks and administrative processes using advanced PowerShell and/or Bash scripting.
  • Manage enterprise systems monitoring and management platforms, including SolarWinds, Elastic Stack, and Veeam.
  • Support and maintain enterprise storage platforms, with Dell PowerScale experience considered a strong plus.
  • Participate in planning and execution of patching, backup, and disaster recovery operations.
  • Provide input on security posture improvements and assist in audit or compliance readiness efforts.
  • Establish, document, and manage scalable IT support and helpdesk operations aligned to mission requirements.
  • Develop detailed project plans, roadmaps, and resource allocations. Work with MTSI project leadership to communicate these to government stakeholders.
  • Monitor project progress, performance, and adherence to cybersecurity and compliance requirements (e.g., RMF).
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment with cybersecurity controls, accreditation boundaries, and sustainment expectations.
  • Drive implementation of DoD-compliant IT architectures, including CDS, CSfC, and related classified communications solutions.
  • Coordinate stakeholder communication and reporting, including some executive-level briefings.
  • Support security audits and respond to findings related to program execution.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive systems administration experience in Linux and/or Windows environments
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT project management with at least 5 years managing DoD classified IT programs.
  • Nutanix AHV support highly desired, VMWare ESXi experience can be a substitute
  • Active TS/SCI clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale IT infrastructure deployments and data center projects.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD security and compliance frameworks, especially RMF, STIGs, and cybersecurity controls.
  • Experience building and optimizing IT support models, including helpdesk tiering and escalation processes.
  • Experience with cross-domain solutions (CDS) and Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) architectures.
  • Familiarity with classified environments, including system authorization boundaries and IA considerations.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Certifications (preferred but not required):
  • Nutanix Certified Professional (NCP)
  • VMware VCP (any version)
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or higher
  • Cisco or Dell networking certifications (e.g., CCNA, D-Networking)
  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification or higher.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Red Hat systems including Satellite, IDM, and automation with Ansible
  • Proficiency in enterprise virtualization, ideally with Nutanix AHV; VMware ESXi acceptable
  • Hands-on experience supporting Cisco and Dell switching and routing technologies
  • Demonstrated experience in developing support SOPs, ticket workflows, and training lower-tier support
  • Practical experience with monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds, Elastic, Veeam, and BigFix
  • Strong scripting skills using PowerShell and/or Bash for task automation and configuration management
  • Exposure to multitenant, high-availability, and secure computing environments
  • Familiarity with Dell PowerScale (Isilon) storage systems
  • Experience with Everfox (formerly Forcepoint) products Trusted Gateway System (TGS), High Speed Guard, TTC/TTC-R, and Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC).
  • Hands-on knowledge of project documentation and configuration management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project).
  • Agile/Scrum methodology familiarity or certification is a bonus.
