General Responsibilities |
Provide a sustainable environment within the college buildings and grounds that is safe, healthy and conducive to teaching, learning and working. Coordinates compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety regulations by all areas of the college community. |
Work Performed |
* Co-Chair the colleges Health and Safety Committee (
HSC).
* Represent the
HSC on other committee's and Teams.
* Conducts training for employees in areas of expertise.
* Coordinates with Human Resources and supervisors for other training for employees.
* Recommends through administrative channels sustainability, health and safety renovations and improvements.
* Develop and manage budgets of sustainability, signage and safety.
* Evaluates the safety and sustainability of outside contractors and integrates their sustainability and safety plans into ours.
* Performs routine inspections of College facilities to insure compliance with government regulations.
* Issue work orders for repairs with special emphasis on those affecting sustainability and health and safety.
* Attends required meetings and training for supervisors.
* Evaluate personnel and procedures during emergencies.
* Review plans for all new facilities, programs and renovations.
* Co-chair Facilities and Sustainability Team.
* Research, plan, budget and supervise sustainable activities, signage, equipment and facilities.
* Supervise signage coordinator, work study students and interns.
* Other duties as assigned.

Other Knowledge Required |
A Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Maryland Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
OSHA training and regulations.
Excellent record keeping skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with students, administrators, faculty and staff of all levels.
Knowledge of governmental safety and environmental regulations.
Knowledge of Howard Community College systems and procedures.
Knowledge of sustainability.
OTHER
REQUIREMENTS
Ability to motivate staff and promote the concept of Teamwork.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to make decisions based on the logical interpretation of available information and data
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Regular attendance is a requirement of this job.
Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity.

Working Conditions |
Work in extremes of noise, temperature and humidity.
Work outdoors in the woods and fields.
Work with difficult personalities to achieve the needed outcomes.
Work in the dirt and dust of crawl spaces and in high places such as roofs.
Work under the stress of tight schedules and the risk of dangerous conditions.
The use of personal protective clothing and equipment may be required.

HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The
ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The
ORP. |
