Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the Material System Supervisor will oversee the department and is responsible for training and evaluation of all Material System Technicians in regards to properly mixing, grinding, and moving all raw material for the production of injection molded products.
Responsibilities will also include setting up, programming, operating, and performing minor maintenance of the entire material handling system. Controlling and identifying all scrap material, which includes regrind for processing, recyclable scrap, and waste scrap.
Essential Functions:
- Properly train all Material System Techs in the listed areas: Processes / Material System / Safety, and Proper PPE / Cleaning Procedures
- Maintain all department training records, competency logs, and job descriptions.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and conduct employee evaluations.
- Ensure that employees comply with all Health, Safety, and Regulatory programs.
- Attend the Production Scheduling meeting and prepare a schedule for Material System Techs.
- Read, follow, and verify Work Orders to ensure the product is manufactured to specification.
- Verify that Material Technicians are properly completing daily responsibilities.
- Develop and promote Continuous Improvement projects within the department and assist such efforts throughout the organization.
- Report and follow proper procedures for all plant accidents and ensure all proper documentation is completed in legal time frames.
- Identify raw materials and label correctly.
- Complete moisture tests daily and document results.
- Program, set up, and operate the entire material handling system, including blenders, dryers, hoppers, and grinder evacuation units.
- Troubleshoot and correct common material and material system problems.
- Change materials as required.
- Clean and maintain material blenders, hoppers, dryers, and grinders as required.
- Verify Closed-loop regrind systems are in place and working.
- Report material system maintenance needs to the maintenance dept, including grinders, hoppers, material system, and barrel evac units.
- Complete material transactions for additions and subtractions of raw materials.
- Inventory raw materials, colorants, and additives.
- Track and report on the use of materials, regrind, and scrap (including purge).
- Maintain the FIFO and inventory of regrind materials.
- Assist in maintaining HellermannTyton's Quality/Environmental System certifications by supporting: corporate policies, procedures, work instructions, and required documentation.
- Verify daily that the Material Log sheets are completed and correct.
Other Functions
- Visual inspection of manufactured parts.
- Mix raw materials as needed using the correct formulas.
- Unload "Bulk Material Trucks" into the proper silo as required, following specific work instructions.
- Oversee the general housekeeping of department areas, and supplies are in the appropriate places.
- Weigh and properly document all scrap materials for reuse, recycling, and waste.
- Wearing your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a condition of employment.
- Change, clean, and maintain all pump filters in the material system as required.
- Other duties may be assigned.

- Lead, motivate, and train assigned employees.

- Accurately maintain the Material Moisture Log
- Accurately maintain the Electronic Material Log.
- Ability to read and follow Work Orders.
- Properly complete material changes according to the production schedule and Work Order.
- Properly identify and label all types of raw materials (virgin, regrind, recyclable scrap, and waste).
- Properly correct common material and material system-related problems.
- Properly complete cleaning on grinders, hoppers, blenders, and presses during material changes.
- Properly complete material transactions using the ERP system.
- Knowledge in QS9000/IATF16949 & ISO14000.
- Successfully complete forklift training and certification.
What You'll Bring
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing material handling experience (preferably in an injection molding environment).
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 85 lbs.
- Good physical stamina.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- Familiarity with computers and have the ability to perform basic data entry.
- Ability to work overtime on a daily and/or rotating weekend basis to meet the needs of our customers.
- Ability to work non-standard hours (up to 12 hours/day) occasionally to meet the needs of our customers. Ability to inspect production for quality defects.
