2815-990 GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Terminal Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the terminal to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant handling of cargo and related services. This leadership role requires strong operational expertise, logistical coordination, and personnel management to deliver high-performance outcomes in a fast-paced environment. The position plays a critical role in driving safety, sustainability, operational excellence, and stakeholder satisfaction through strategic planning, effective team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives. This individual collaborates closely with internal teams, third-party service providers, and external stakeholders to align terminal performance with broader organizational goals. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
Enforce all applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards to maintain a safe, compliant, and incident-free work environment. Conduct regular audits, risk assessments, and safety training.
Manage third-party and in-house terminal staff by coordinating training, scheduling, and daily operations to ensure optimal efficiency and alignment with operational goals. Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Plan, schedule, and coordinate cargo handling, storage, and transport activities in alignment with ship manifests and operational priorities. Identify and mitigate logistical bottlenecks to ensure seamless throughput.
Oversee the maintenance, repair, and functionality of terminal equipment, buildings, and infrastructure. Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
Design and deploy operational procedures and strategies aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing costs, and improving service levels. Benchmark performance against industry best practices
Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Recommend and implement process enhancements to optimize terminal performance.
Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including shipping lines, customers, and regulatory agencies. Ensure clear, timely communication and high service standards.
Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental regulations and best practices. Oversee the responsible storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws.
Assist in the development and management of operating budgets, forecasts, and financial reports. Monitor expenditures and contribute to cost control measures aligned with corporate objectives.
