PC Technician - TEMP

Position Summary
The City of Garland is seeking a temporary Windows 11 Upgrade Technician to assist the IT Department with the execution of a citywide in-place upgrade project from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with desktop systems, OS deployments, and working in a structured IT environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Perform in-place upgrades from Windows 10(22h2) to Windows 11 across the city of city-issued desktops and laptops.
* Reimage systems that are not eligible for in-place upgrades due to technical limitations hardware or 21h2 or earlier.
* Follow established upgrade and imaging procedures with careful attention to documentation.
* Conduct pre-upgrade checks to verify hardware compatibility and data integrity.
* Ensure successful post-upgrade validation with each user, confirming:

o All critical applications launch and function properly
o Outlook/email access is operational
o Microsoft Teams signs in and is fully functional
o Printing to network and local printers works as expected

* Document any issues encountered during the upgrade or reimage and escalate as needed.
* Communicate progress and completion status to team leads and end users.
* Work alongside other IT staff to coordinate scheduling and minimize end-user disruption.
* Some upgrade work will be performed after department business hours, and the technician must be available the following morning to provide immediate support for any user-impacting issues.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience performing OS upgrades and imaging in an enterprise environment.
* Familiarity with Microsoft deployment tools (SCCM, MDT, or Intune preferred).
* Basic knowledge of Windows 11 features and system requirements.
* Strong attention to detail and documentation habits.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Minimum Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications (e.g., A+, Microsoft) a plus.
* 1+ years of experience in desktop support or IT field services.
* Ability to lift and move computer equipment as needed.
* Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
* Willingness to work after-hours and provide morning follow-up support as needed.
