POSITION TITLE: Senior Billing Coordinator, Human Resources

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior HR Billing Coordinator to join our HR Department at Scripps Research Institute, a leading company committed to innovation and improving lives through scientific advancement. The candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing billing processes related to employee reimbursements, HR vendor contracts, and benefits invoicing. This is a high-impact position that ensures accuracy and accountability across millions of dollars in HR-related spend, including health insurance claims administration and other employee benefit services. This is an ideal role for a detail-oriented, analytical thinker who's looking to grow into broader roles in HR operations, finance or vendor strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:



  • Manage end-to-end billing processes for HR vendors, including medical claims administrators, stop-loss carriers, benefits administrators, and third-party providers. Includes preparing monthly self-bills for various vendors.
  • Reconcile complex invoices against internal records, contracts, eligibility files, and claims reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable and General Ledger teams to ensure timely and accurate payment and resolve discrepancies.
  • Enable streamlined reporting of billing activities, accounts receivable, and other relevant financial data.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of improved billing processes.
  • Responsible for monthly Benefit Cost Summary.
  • Address customer inquiries, resolve billing issues, and foster positive client relationships.
  • Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.



        REQUIREMENTS:



        • 4+ years of experience in benefits administration, billing, accounting or finance, ideally with exposure to self-insured medical plans or complex vendor environments preferred.
        • Proficiency in HRIS systems software and navigating vendor websites. Experience with UKG and Workday a plus, but not required.
        • Strong understanding of claims billing, healthcare cost structures, and third-party administrator relationships.
        • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel working with large, complex datasets (e.g. LOOKUP (X/V/H), INDIRECT/MATCH, named ranges, pivot tables, reconciliation workflows). Experience with Power Query a strong plus, but not required.
        • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
        • Adaptable to changing priorities while maintaining a high level of productivity.
        • Discretion and professionalism in managing sensitive and confidential information.
        • Ability to take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating a proactive and flexible approach to work.
        • This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus.



                COMPENSATION:

                The expected hiring range for this position is $28.75 to $35.00/hourly, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
