Job Description

Johnson County Public Works is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Civil Engineer III in the Engineering Division in Olathe, KS. This position will provide engineering leadership on County culvert, bridge and road projects in a fun, collaborative, high performance environment that emphasizes teamwork. Job duties of the Civil Engineer III may include:

    Administer the Operations & Construction Engineering by designing culvert, bridge and road projects in the unincorporated area of Johnson County. Create Scopes of Service and Contracts for survey and design projects and assume the role of Contract Administration for projects designed by consultants. Create and manage construction specifications, create bid documents and manage project bid lists on the County website. Responsible for the creation of briefing sheets and attending County Manager and Board of County Commissioners meeting to facilitate approval of construction contracts.

  • Assist Operations Division by providing technical supervision of field sign crew, signing plans for new subdivisions, perform studies and road safety audits for high accident/high traffic intersections, and design and ensure implementation of traffic control plans.

  • Responsible for inventories & management systems for the replacement, repair, and maintenance of pavements, culverts, signs, pavement markings, and guard rails. Determine drainage area and size for culvert replacements and design solutions for drainage and flooding issues.

  • Design and create Stormwater Pollution Protection Plans, submit and coordinate all environmental permits, coordinate all NPDES and Johnson County Land Disturbance inspection procedures.

  • Supervisory duties include coordinating the work of other employees by assigning tasks, training on task performance, scheduling work, reviewing the work of others, and instructing other employees in methods or procedures needed to carry out their jobs.



Job Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a Kansas Professional Engineer License are required. (Licensing in the state of Kansas may be required based on assignment. If a Kansas license is required, six months will be provided to complete the reciprocity process.) Eight (8) years of related infrastructure, construction, design, or project management experience is required
