POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior GME Finance Manager, the Senior GME Financial Analyst serves as a strategic partner in the financial leadership of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) office at Boston Medical Center. This highly autonomous role will provide advanced analytical acumen, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex financial issues that significantly impact institutional performance and GME program sustainability. A core responsibility of this role is the oversight and execution of invoicing and financial reconciliation processes related to resident schedules. The Senior Analyst will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of interdepartmental and external billing, validate schedule data against contractual agreements, and reconcile discrepancies to maintain financial integrity. This includes close collaboration with program coordinators, clinical departments, and external affiliates to ensure alignment between operational activities and financial outcomes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Collaborate with Senior GME Finance Manager on the monthly and heavily routinized creation of complex billing schedules for all Residents and Fellows on VA (Veterans Affairs) rotations, including financial terms for each new resident rotation within the affiliate contract
  • Work to create documentation and develop appropriate standard work for the resident VA and Medicare, billing, auditing, and reporting processes.
  • Thoroughly research and follow up on VA billing variances from budget to actuals, collaborating with program leaders and GME team members to gather relevant information as well as accounting to ensure receivables balance compliant
  • Review and reconcile BMC schedule billing with the VA schedule billing monthly as well as other affiliate resident rotations as needed.
  • Develop and maintain communication with GME program coordinators to ensure accurate Resident schedule, including making updates in Workday, and work to optimize schedule accuracy for billing purposes
  • Complete ad-hoc financial requests for the GME program administrators as needed
  • Assist with the annual budget process for the residency programs and associated cost centers
  • Review and complete residency program financial reports, including variance analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement within GME Finance processes and procedures, particularly in leveraging the New Innovations software for resident schedules
  • Assist in forecasting and multi-year projections for GME program in coordination with Sr. Manager
  • Partner with the BMC Reimbursement team to maximize cost reporting and oversee the Medicare IRIS billing process.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field; and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
