Job Summary

  • Responsible for providing consultant-level expertise as Southwest seeks to remain a Leader in Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability. The Citizenship Consultant will serve as a key subject matter expert in the areas of Corporate Citizenship and especially citizenship reporting. This role will support the Citizenship team by researching best practices in corporate citizenship, coordinating with the various SME teams across the organization, serving as the key point of contact for citizenship-related reporting work like creating the Southwest Airlines One Report or responding to rating and ranking organizations, and organizing efficient processes and workflow for corporate citizenship through programs and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Serve in a consultant role on Companywide initiatives focused on sustainability and citizenship
  • Serve as internal consultant working with the One Report agency and cross-departmental team to develop key indicators and metrics determined for the report. Ensures the Southwest One Report is aligned to appropriate frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, UN Sustainable Development Goals)
  • Participates in all aspects of citizenship-related programs, including planning, budgeting, and performance. Promotes the program throughout the organization and tracks utilization. Supervises the work of program or project staff to ensure that work is completed on time or in accordance with established standards or performance metrics. Ensures that activities are in compliance with organizational policies and any relevant external regulations. Provides reports and updates to senior management or other stakeholders
  • Works to evaluate reporting frameworks (such as GRI and TCFD) and key data indicators to ensure we are including appropriate data, hitting requirements, and achieving best in class reporting
  • Evaluates changes in reporting frameworks and rater ranker methodology to ensure Southwest is up to speed on changes and has an established feedback loop
  • Uses expertise to develop, present and make recommendations for new ideas, methods and projects. Provides advice to individuals or the organization, and serves as the initial point of contact for consultation
  • Prepares for executive presentations to advance the corporate citizenship strategy
  • Partners with teams such as DEI or Environmental Sustainability for consistency in message and data
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of reporting frameworks such as GRI, SASB, UN SDGS and TCFD
  • Knowledge of how to create an integrated corporate sustainability report
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of project management, including planning and execution of long-term projects coordinated across multiple Teams within the organization
  • Knowledge of corporate citizenship and the relationship and impact of Environmental, Social and Governance efforts
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Skilled in working well with Internal and External Customers to achieve the goals of Southwest Airlines, actively participating in meetings and departmental functions as necessary to ensure successful results
  • Ability to speak confidently in front of large and small groups, including providing counsel to Executive Leaders
  • Ability to demonstrate a strategic thought process, proactive initiative, and a sense of urgency
  • Preferred: Knowledge / experience with the Workiva platform
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • Advanced experience in:
    • Corporate Citizenship, frameworks, and reporting
Licensing/Certification
  • Preferred: Citizenship Reporting Frameworks Certification (GRI, TCFD)
  • Preferred: Program Management or Six Sigma Certification
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from limited space workstation/desk/office area for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be willing to travel for work as needed
  • Must be willing to work outside of 8-5 hours as needed depending on the needs of the business

Pay & Benefits:

Competitive market salary from $95,750 per year to $106,400.00 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the Company.
