Covia is looking for a Mining Engineer who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at our Chardon, OH facility. As a Mining Engineer, you will support an operating environment that embraces the continuous improvement process, implementing and maintaining systems, driving productivity improvements as well as leading, coaching, motivating, and engaging the work teams to accomplish operational objectives

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Set high standards for workplace safety. Understand and enforce MSHA regulations and Covia's Corporate Safety & Health policies and procedures ensuring employees are properly trained and equipped to perform jobs in the safest manner. Enforce high standards for plant housekeeping.
  • Coordinate with Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and Production Supervisors to ensure production and quality needs are being met.
  • Coordinate with Environmental Affairs to maintain compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinate with the landowner and other relevant parties to ensure compliance with land-use agreements and maintain a good working relationship.
  • Supervise hourly personnel and contractors as needed in performing their daily work assignments.
  • Direct mine related production activities, including but not limited to:



    • Loading, Hauling, Stockpiling, Waste Management, Stripping, Road Watering and Maintenance, Tailings Disposal and Reclamation



  • Provide short range mine planning in accordance with five-year plans.
  • Performs survey and updates to mine progress and volumes using mine modeling software.


The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years of mining /earth moving experience with heavy equipment.
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
  • 1-2 years of mine planning experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and computer programs
  • Drone experience preferred.
  • Experience surveying preferred.
  • Experience working with Propeller and other aerial mine modelling software programs preferred.
