Position Title: Loading Supervisor - Relief Driver Class B w/Hazmat
Salt Lake City, UT
Monday through Friday
2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. (Second shift)

The Loading Supervisor oversees and coordinates the loading team's activities, ensuring cylinders are efficiently loaded for customer delivery. This includes assigning tasks, supervising the unloading of empty cylinders, and moving them to designated fill racks or storage areas.

A key responsibility of this role is promptly addressing any unsafe acts or conditions. Additionally, the supervisor is involved in personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures, with a strong focus on recruitment, employee development, and engagement. The position requires the ability to complete Driving school to obtain a Class B CDL.

As a Delivery Driver at Airgas, you will be a part of a professional team that encourages internal mobility while offering our employees a work/life balance. Most vehicles are under 6 years old and equipped with driver-friendly technology, such as On Board Computers, collision avoidance technology, latest camera technology and GPS navigation.

In particular, you will:

  • Load full cylinder pallets and transport them to storage.

  • Load trucks for customer deliveries.

  • Operate forklift safely, performing daily pre-trip inspections.

  • Conduct daily safety tailgate meetings and monthly safety meetings.

  • Conduct periodic checks of loading areas to ensure safe and efficient operation, fostering a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Ensure immediate and proper reporting of all injuries and accidents.

  • Strictly observe all safety rules, and ensure safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted, and documented.

  • Provide prompt coaching and corrective action to address poor performance, ensuring improvement or appropriate discharge.

  • Approve essential overtime while maintaining acceptable levels.

  • Effectively handle employee complaints and issues.

  • Be receptive to safety and other ongoing training, attending all safety meetings.

Driver and Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean driving record and possess experience driving delivery vehicles (CDL not always required).

  • Attend and pass Airgas driver training classes, signing a reimbursement agreement for training costs.

  • Deliver compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders, and hard goods to branches and customers on scheduled routes.

  • Pick up empty cylinders from customer sites.

  • Record deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest.

  • Load/unload trucks and set up cylinders for use.

  • Perform pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, documenting deficiencies using Airgas forms and ensuring all safety items are in good working order.

  • Alert the production manager of any shortages.

  • Comply with hourly work schedules and be punctual.

  • Adhere to all regulatory agency requirements (e.g., DOT, EPA, OSHA, FDA).

  • Follow all safety rules and operating procedures.

  • Perform all other assigned duties.

  • Ability to attend and successfully complete CDL training classes.

  • Obtain learner's permit for CDL training.

  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

  • Current Medical Examiner's Card.

  • At least one year of experience driving commercial vehicles (with or without CDL licensing) preferred.

  • Must be forklift trained.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Moderate computer skills.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization and documentation skills.

  • Must be able to work occasional overtime and weekends as necessary.

Education and / or Experience:

  • Prefer a high school degree or the equivalent GED.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to work during prolonged standing, frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, and feeling.

  • Required to reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Must be able to routinely lift and / or move 25 - 75 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 76 - 100 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
