How can you make an impact?

The Principal Data Scientist serves as technical lead for DS/AI colleagues working on some of McGraw Hill's most important strategic efforts companywide. They will lead collaborations to determine optimal architectures / approaches for various problem spaces and influence organizational strategies by mentoring colleagues and driving alignment across teams.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What You'll Do:

  • Demonstrate creativity and domain expertise leading to the development of approaches, techniques, pipelines, processes, etc.
  • Apply acquired professional knowledge to interpret internal and external business issues and recommend solutions/best practices in line with business goals.
  • Understand the organization and how different disciplines are interrelated.
  • Drive strategic initiatives by aligning team priorities with organizational goals and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Define projects for the team and maintain an overview of different projects and timelines.
  • Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise. Frequently advise others on complex matters.

What You Bring:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience at current level or 6-10 years at prior level
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity (technical or management)
  • Deep knowledge and practical experience with production-scale DS/AI systems with a recent focus on generative AI (GenAI)
  • Understanding of complex GenAI architectures and experience with guarding, scaling, monitoring, and maintaining these systems
  • Strong technical communication and collaboration skills, particularly communicating with nontechnical stakeholders and working collaboratively with engineering teams to meet project goals and timelines
  • Experience supporting DS/AI systems across stages of the Machine Learning Operations/LLM Operations lifecycle at enterprise scale
  • Strong experience with Python (10+ years)

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Experience with LangChain/LangSmith
  • Affinity for education
  • Experience with educational data

The pay range for this position is between $162,250 - $190,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
