BASIC PURPOSE:

Performs a variety of tasks involving the handling, kitting, issuing, or counting of materials and the maintenance and accuracy of inventory records, using the computerized Materials Management inventory system. Assists in documenting, recording, adjusting and reporting on all inventory activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Warehouse Manager or Shipping/Receiving Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Locates and/or issues requisitioned supplies and materials based on approved work orders, stock issue requests or supply requests.
  • Prepares and issues kits of materials for maintenance, as needed. Works with the Shipping/Receiving group to coordinate the delivery of kitted supply requests. Tags or marks orders appropriately and may be required to carry and transport orders to the shipping platform.
  • Performs inventory cycle count audits or physical inventories as required. Verifies counts against inventory control system data or other documentation. May assist in tracking flow of transactions and actual changes in stock status to rectify count errors.
  • Completes all necessary records and reports in a timely and accurate manner. Compiles and distributes reports.
  • Labels stock using MWRA inventory label, bar code or other identification method.
  • Develops and inputs equipment Bills of Materials and spare parts reports, using the computerized system, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals or manufacturer catalogs to identify where spare parts are used.
  • Recommends substitute materials as needed when requisitioned materials are not available.
  • Operates forklifts, pallet trucks, and/or lift equipment as necessary in performance of order filling or other duties.
  • Ensures proper stock rotation.
  • Maintains a professional courteous relationship with customers.
  • Maintains appropriate files and records, etc. to reflect daily transactions and movement of materials.
  • Performs work in a safe, professional manner. Follows policies and procedures and other departmental regulations.


SECONDARY DUTIES:



  • Maintains clean, neat, orderly work area. Assists in maintaining warehouse equipment in good condition and reports damage or defects to supervisor.
  • Performs related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:



  • A high school education or the equivalent; and
  • At least one (1) year of experience in basic warehouse and inventory control procedures; or
  • Any combination of education or experience.


Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Ability to use computers to read, verify, record and enter inventory data.
  • Ability to safely use manual and powered material handling equipment.
  • Ability to complete MWRA safety training for the occupational hazards and safety practices associated with the duties of the position to include the use of materials handling equipment, hoisting equipment, and on-site vehicles.
  • Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment.
  • Basic reading, writing, mathematical and oral communication skills.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

A Massachusetts Hoisting Operator's License (1C), or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Power and hand tools, mobile radio, telephone, personal computer including word processing and other software, copy and fax machine.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings, and moderately quiet in office settings.
