Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer II creates, documents, develops, and implements procedures required to assemble, test, process, and manufacture the products of the company. This position reports to the Director of Hardware Engineering and Configuration Management.



Responsibilities

Typical Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    Planning team efforts to include coordinating work with assigned technicians and outside vendors;
  • Quoting effort to produce products;
  • Reviewing and documenting subsystems, assemblies and piece parts;
  • Solving procurement, production and test problems on relevant design packages and reporting schedule status;
  • Performing to cost budgets;
  • Identifying risks and developing contingency/mitigation plans for assembly floor-related issues;
  • Creating/maintaining Bills of Material, drawings, work instructions and routings and initiating Engineering Change Requests (ECR);
  • Updating documentation to company standards and program requirements;
  • Analyzing engineering drawings and relaying information between production and engineering (ECRs, drawing interpretation, etc.);
  • Developing and implementing process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environment as well as designing and development manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes and new products and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost;
  • Planning and implementing continuous improvement of current processes;
  • Determining needs for first article builds and facilitate the process working with Quality and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering;
  • Developing standardized training plans for new hires and refresher training;
  • Analyzing quality data and making corrective actions to processes, training, etc. to eliminate problems;
  • Determining in-line inspection methods and procures equipment needed to verify manufacturing capability;
  • Analyzing designs for potential safety concerns during manufacturing and by end users as well as initiating ECRs and communicating concerns to designers;
  • Analyzing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of quality, cost reduction, and throughput;
  • Collaborating with configuration control and design engineering regarding product tooling and design to ensure effectual production methods;
  • Participating in product design reviews;
  • Providing support to purchasing by conferring with vendors in determining product specifications and arranging equipment, parts, or material purchase, and evaluating products according to quality standards and specifications;
  • Estimating staffing requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions;
  • Working closely with manufacturing department to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for new and current employees;
  • Creating and maintaining accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop orders, and concepts in accordance with the R&D and quality assurance functions;
  • Providing engineering support in production department to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems;
  • Supporting company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, and goods manufacturing practices; and,
  • Any other duties as assigned.


Required Experience/Qualifications

  • BS degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical or electrical engineer or related field
  • Six years of experience working as a manufacturing engineer or in an equivalent capacity
  • Familiar with variety of assembly and manufacturing processes in a cellular manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical assemblies and components, technical drawings and Bills of Materials
  • Ability to read, interpret and train on blueprints
  • Knowledge of lean techniques
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing concepts
  • Knowledge of IPC Workmanship Standard
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
