Surveyor

Job Summary

Provides and manages land surveying services for all departments within the company. Responsible for conducting a wide range of field and office land surveying tasks, from routine measurements to complex computations and graphical representations. Works in coordination with engineers, project managers, and public agencies to deliver precise and legally compliant survey data.

Career Levels

Grade 4: Associate Surveyor

Career Level: T2 - Intermediate Technical Support

  • Expands analytical and technical skills in a structured environment.
  • Works under moderate supervision using established procedures and methods.
  • Applies basic to intermediate skills to assigned tasks.

Grade 5: Surveyor

Career Level: T3 - Senior Technical Support

  • Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of processes through training and experience.
  • Completes complex assignments with minimal supervision.
  • May help determine approaches for new assignments.

Survey Measurements

Measures distances and angles for standard/routine surveys.

Conducts complex, high-precision surveys (e.g., FERC-mandated).

Graphical Representations

Drafts graphical outputs, transfers field data to computers.

Prepares advanced graphical data; integrates multiple data sources.

Legal Descriptions

Drafts legal descriptions under supervision.

Writes legal descriptions for review by registered surveyors.

CAD & Mapping

Prepares draft maps/sketches using CAD and survey software.

Creates final versions of maps and documents using CAD tools.

Computations

Performs basic calculations and "as-built" drawings.

Independently solves complex computation problems.

Coordination

Interfaces with engineers, technicians, and public agencies.

Leads coordination efforts with stakeholders and external parties.

Education, Experience & Certifications

Requirement

Grade 4: Associate Surveyor

Grade 5: Surveyor

Education

Associate's degree in survey technology or equivalent experience.

Experience

Typically 2+ years in surveying or CAD work.

Typically 5+ years in surveying or CAD work.

Certifications

Certified Survey Technician (NSPS) - within 6 months.

FAA Part 107 Certification is a plus

Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) - within 6 months.

FAA Part 107 Certification -within 6 months

    • Basic knowledge of plane and geodetic survey math.
    • Skilled in using GPS, total stations, electronic levels.
    • Able to read and interpret engineering plans and legal descriptions.

    • Intermediate expertise in survey standards, laws, and boundary law.
    • Strong geodetic knowledge and coordinate systems.
    • Independently uses advanced survey and CAD tools.
    • Develops and checks technical documentation and data outputs.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor: Field work in varying environmental conditions, including elevated areas, unstable surfaces, and confined spaces.

Compensation Range:

$26.46 - $49.64

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
