Job Details

The Global Senior Category Management Director - 3PL, reporting to VP Global Indirect Category Management, is responsible for execution of all sourcing activities for Cencora's World Courier business unit. Leads the development of 3rd Party Transport strategies, including business unit-specific strategies (e.g., Air Freight, rail, road). Defines, deploys, and manages sourcing strategies while ensuring stakeholder alignment to maximize total cost of ownership savings and procurement value contribution. Collaborates with Category Managers to execute global and regional category strategies locally. This is a fully remote role within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Executes the procurement strategy process and oversees local sourcing execution.

  • Leads internal and external analyses (e.g., industry and supplier) as part of cross-functional sourcing teams.

  • Develops procurement strategies and ensures alignment with internal customers.

  • Supports supplier selection and provides recommendations for final decisions.

  • Conducts fact-based negotiations with suppliers.

  • Ensures stakeholder and business alignment with approvals as required.

  • Ensures knowledge transfer by organizing and storing project deliverables, tools, and templates.

  • Establishes measures and controls to track successful implementation, aligned with KPIs.

  • Executes regional and global category strategies locally, including contract implementation and compliance.

  • Collaborates with Category Managers to ensure local acceptance of new contracts and processes.

  • Coordinates contract implementation tasks with local users.

  • Monitors internal contract compliance and takes corrective actions when necessary, in coordination with Category Managers and local leadership.

  • Supports supplier classification, categorization, and evaluation policies.

  • Tracks supplier performance and supports supplier development activities.

  • Organizes cross-functional review meetings with suppliers to improve performance and reduce costs.

  • Conducts audits and identifies opportunities for contract improvements or re-negotiations.

  • Gathers feedback from internal customers on procurement processes and supplier performance.

  • Conducts periodic customer surveys to drive continuous improvement.

  • Collaborates with internal customers to identify cost reduction opportunities.

  • Reinforces the procurement team's profile and recognition within the organization.

  • Supports the business with sourcing for major, unplanned ad hoc demands.

  • Maintains control over high-spend areas by leveraging deep sourcing and category expertise.

  • Manages, develops, and coaches direct reports, ensuring their performance and growth within the organization.

  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required

Education and Work Experience

  • Requires relatable professional experience in indirect procurement categories as well as working within a matrixed stakeholder environment. 3PL and/or air freight preferred.

  • Educational requirements include a minimum of a bachelor's degree in either supply chain management, business administration or finance. A minimum of ten (10) years' experience supervising, coaching, and leading a team.

  • Advanced professional certification in procurement preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of freight across multiple modes (Road, Air, Rail, Sea) is essential, with substantialprofessional experience in the same functional domain or other related positions preferably working in aninternational environment.

  • Experience in working with virtual teams.

  • Needs to demonstrate a track recordof both successful supplier negotiations and business change management in order to ensure thatnegotiated benefits and new ways of working are fully implemented.

  • Experience can come from previousprocurement leadership roles with similar objectives (preferred) or from having managed 3rd PartyLogistics Operations.

  • Knowledge of MS tools to create PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook

  • Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to effectively manage multiple projects of various diverse scope in a cross-functional environment

  • Experience in managing contract development and compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement processes that achieve business objectives, operational efficiency, and internal control effectiveness

  • Outstanding leadership and execution skills; proven history of delivering quality results

  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required

*This Salary Range reflects a National Average for this job. The actual range may vary based on your locale. Ranges in Colorado/California/Washington/New York/Hawaii/Vermont/Minnesota/Massachusetts/Illinois State-specific locations may be up to 10% lower than the minimum salary range, and 12% higher than the maximum salary range.
