You Will

The Administrative Office drives enterprise reporting and process discipline across functions at Girl Scouts of the USA with the goal of increasing Movement-wide efficiency in the most cost-effective manner. Work includes driving continuous improvement with measurable outcomes for standards and procedures across vendor contracting, procurement, IT sourcing and development, and property management. Enterprise reporting will develop and share insights into metrics and KPIs across GSUSA communities and initiatives, identifying key issues, impact areas, and opportunities for prioritization alignment. The Information Technology, Properties, Procurement/Sustainability, Public Policy/Advocacy, and Cultural Assets teams within this division collaborate closely with all other Girl Scouts of the USA divisions, while also impacting quality of service delivery to council customers in support of our end girl and volunteer customers.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Property Mechanic performs on-going preventive maintenance to buildings, utilities and grounds for the Edith Macy Conference Center (EMCC), with primary concern for systems and infrastructure as well as grounds and roads. The EMCC is a complex of two hundred sixty-five (265) acres, forty-four (44) structures adjacent to Camp Andree Clark, comprised of one hundred sixty (160) acres and thirty-four (34) structures.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Primary duties of the position

    Performs preventive maintenance and services to whole complex (including Camp Andree Clark) in conformance with health and safety regulations/standards. (OSHA/State/County)
  • Helps budgeting for purchasing costs and maintaining costs for supplies as well as equipment used for ground layout and maintenance.
  • Provides training and work direction to other engineering staff, as required, acts as a project leader on team assignments.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by Supervisor.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Staff supports others and/or executing standardized processes (including all non-exempt staff).

  • Minimum 3 years in indoor and outdoor landscaping or related preventative maintenance skills
  • Experienced in general maintenance repairs as needed on electrical, plumbing, minor carpentry, and painting
  • Welding skills preferred but not required
  • Knowledge and expertise to trouble shoot mechanical issues as they arise
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week schedule, which may require a Saturday or Sunday and be able to work overtime when needed. Also required to be on-call and fill-in on night duty and/or weekends for emergencies when not on a scheduled paid time off day
  • Must have a valid NYS driver's license
  • Ability to read and comprehend operating manuals and instruction books and able to train other staff on the use of the equipment
  • Math aptitude skill required for water meter reading
  • Proven experience operating and maintaining/servicing mowers, loaders, back-hoes, snowplows, 4-wheel drive trucks, chain saws, brush cutters and other related maintenance equipment. Must have the ability to train other staff to operate the same equipment
  • Knowledge of computer operations as they pertain to yearly scheduling and preventive maintenance of the equipment, ability to keep records of all maintenance items
  • Physical stamina for outside grounds work, digging and heavy lifting
  • Experience in performing in all weather conditions from snowstorms through hurricanes, utilizing hand and power equipment
  • Experience exercising initiative and leadership skills
  • Experience in recommending cost containment measures in the performance of routine duties and specialized jobs
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Experience in exercising judgment in identifying priority work
  • Knowledge of identifying and reporting safety problems
  • Ability to work within defined procedures established by National Properties

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (i.e., degrees, certifications)

Degree or Equivalent Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent relevant experience and/or trade school

Minimum Years of Experience:

3+ years' experience with indoor and outdoor landscaping or related preventative maintenance skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Driver's License: Must have a valid NYS driver's license

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $60,000

This represents the present low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
