Job Summary
The Research Associate (PostDoc) in the FOTIO LAB will plan, conduct and direct a wide variety of experiments. The PostDoc will be responsible for the evaluation and interpretation of research data, will conduct experiments using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures; plan and execute the details of experiments according to research protocol.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with chronic pain models, substance use paradigms, or inflammation
  • Skills in single-cell or bulk omics analysis (RNA-seq, lipidomics, etc.)
  • Skills in confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, or flow cytometry
  • Skills in western bolt, qPCR, cell and tissue culture
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., GraphPad Prism, R, Python, ImageJ)

Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead independent research projects focused on the molecular and metabolic mechanisms underlying chronic pain and substance use disorders.
  • Design and perform experiments using rodent models, primary cell cultures, and human tissue samples, applying advanced molecular, biochemical, and imaging techniques.
  • Analyze multi-omics datasets (transcriptomics, lipidomics, metabolomics) and integrate findings across platforms to generate mechanistic hypotheses.
  • Translate human postmortem findings into testable questions in animal and cell-based models through a reverse translational research pipeline.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including bioinformaticians, clinicians, and behavioral neuroscientists, to advance shared project goals.
  • Present research findings at internal meetings, national/international conferences, and in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant applications, progress reports, and manuscripts in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to graduate students and research assistants in experimental design and data interpretation.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with institutional and federal research standards.

This position will be located The Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences ( BMES) Building at The University of Texas at Dallas. It's a facility that supports the Bioengineering and Biomedical Sciences programs at UTD, particularly the collaboration with UT Southwestern Medical Center. 2336 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75235.

Work is conducted onsite and in-person.
