Position Description:

The University of Iowa's College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a full-time Assistant Dean for Student Affairs - Clinical or Tenure-track Faculty in Dental Administration.

Major responsibilities include:





  • Provide leadership in admissions and financial aid processes, enrollment management, student life, academic support, career advising, accreditation, and compliance.
  • Oversee the recruitment, engagement, progression, retention, and support of dental students by promoting academic, social, mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
  • Enhance the educational services and experience to ensure student-centered success.
  • Monitor and analyze student data and trends both internally and externally to inform programming service levels/need and effectively manage resources.
  • Serve as a student advocate, investigate and resolve student concerns, conflicts, or complaints.
  • Implement student conduct and professionalism guidelines in collaboration with academic and clinical leadership.
  • Manage student accommodation requests through iterative process.
  • Liaise with university officials, national dental education organizations, and state-wide dental professional community.
  • Serve on collegiate and university committees representing the student voice in policy making and administrative management.
  • Manage operational budget, including student scholarships and resource allocation.
  • Oversee planning and programming for meeting and events, including but not limited to student orientation, White Coat ceremony, commencement, and awards ceremonies.
  • Supervise and support student organizations to foster student engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality regulations, including FERPA and institutional privacy policies, in all student affairs operations.
  • Supervise and mentor student affairs staff and teams to support operational excellence.




Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



Education Requirement:


  • Master's degree in education, student affairs, or other relevant field; OR
  • DDS/DMD with relevant combination of education and/or experience.


Required Qualifications:


  • 5 years relevant student affairs leadership experience, including - academic support and advising, student life and wellness services, crisis management, and financial aid services in a higher education institution.
  • Extensive knowledge of higher education policies, regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Strong background in admissions, enrollment management, and student affairs.
  • Proven success in development and implementation of student focused programs and policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive student records, personal information, and institutional data, in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and university policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.


Desirable Qualifications:

HIGHLY Desirable qualifications:





  • Doctoral degree in higher education administration, educational leadership, student affairs, or related field.
  • Extensive experience working with graduate and/or health professional students preferably in the areas of counseling, advising, student wellness, student engagement, academic support, progress monitoring, and retention.
  • Experience managing academic accommodations through an iterative process.
  • Supervisory experience, to include performance management.




Desirable:





  • Experience with health science education, students, and programming, including successfully executing student ceremonies and events.
  • Experience with curriculum development and improvement processes, including student-centric enhancements.
  • Experience with scholarship management and strategic utilization of funds for student recruitment and retention goals.
