About the Job

This is temporary Civil Service position that will conduct research in the Sarkar Lab in Biomedical Engineering. Duties include:

Protein engineering technique development (60%)
Establish new amplification methods in the lab for complex mRNA/cDNA templates and libraries
Integrate new amplification methods into proof-of-principle cell-free protein selection campaigns
Collaborate to facilitate integration of these amplification methods in new cell-free protein selection campaigns with naive cDNA libraries

General lab management, maintenance, and communication (40%)
Contribute to functioning of the lab by leading several facets of lab management and equipment maintenance
Actively communicate and coordinate other distributed lab management and maintenance tasks
Participate in lab meetings and scientifically engage with other lab members
As appropriate, collaborate with other lab members
As needed, supervise undergraduate students

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, biochemistry, or related field of study plus at least two years of experience OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least six years
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Highly motivated and detail-oriented

Preferred:
Experience with basic molecular biology techniques
Strong understanding of fundamentals of molecular biology and protein biochemistry

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.11 - $22.94 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
