About the Job
This 0.968 FTE position, housed within the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health, supports the following interdisciplinary, high-impact projects at the University of Minnesota: (1) YouthHealthConnect, a youth-driven intervention supporting healthcare navigation for youth experiencing homelessness; (2) a Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) project, Parent Perspectives on Adolescent Health Services aimed at improving partnerships between families and healthcare providers to strengthen adolescent preventive care; (3) an AERA-funded study exploring the impact of deeper learning environments and support structures on first-generation students' college trajectories; (4) The Tech Lab, a study based in the Department of Family Social Science within the College of Education and Human Development, examining how adolescents and families use digital technologies and the implications for health and development; and (5) Lecturer position for FSOS 3105 in the Department of Family Social Science. This position plays a critical role in data collection, analysis, mentorship, and dissemination across all initiatives.
Duties/Responsibilities: YouthHealthConnect (15%) Lead project management tasks for project, including: Developing a project management plan, setting internal deadlines, coordinating team meetings, taking meeting minutes and other project management tasks Scheduling, coordinating and helping to facilitate meetings with key community and cross-sector partners Co-manage refinement and expansion of YouthHealthConnect resource list and map Assist with academic and community dissemination of project results, including presentations and publications, as well as translation of results into meaningful advocacy and policy Participate in recruiting and conducting informed consent with youth experiencing homelessness and staff at youth-serving agencies and assist in conducting youth focus groups and key informant interviews to review and solicit feedback on YouthHealthConnect Serve as key contact person for youth collaborators on this project Lead data management and analysis for the project, including: Manage pre/post test for YouthHealthConnect users De-identifying and uploading qualitative transcripts from interviews and focus groups Managing the quantitative and qualitative datasets Manage development of strategy to scale YouthHealthConnect Co-facilitate YouthHealthConnect trainings with YHHL team and youth Supervise and direct Research Assistants (3) working on this project Attend YHHL team and project meetings
Parent Perspectives on Adolescent Health Services (10%) Collaborate with the Principal Investigator to finalize analysis and prepare academic publications based on a qualitative dataset (data collection and coding already completed). Lead writing and revision efforts for one in-progress manuscript and co-author a second manuscript over the course of the year. Conduct literature reviews to support theoretical framing of manuscripts and contextualization of findings. Assist with preparing materials for conference presentations, including abstracts, slides, and posters. Maintain clear documentation of writing and analysis decisions to support collaborative authorship. Participate in regular research meetings and communicate effectively with others on the research team.
AERA Grant, Principal Investigator on Project: Unveiling Pathways to Higher Education (29%): Exploring the Impact of Deeper Learning and Support Structures on College Enrollment among First-Generation Students in Contrasting School Environments Lead and manage all aspects of the research project, including conceptual framing, analysis plan development, and project timeline. Conduct advanced quantitative analyses using a large-scale secondary dataset to address research questions aligned with the project's goals. Prepare and submit a poster presentation of findings to the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting. Draft and submit a manuscript for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Ensure compliance with data use agreements, ethical guidelines, and relevant institutional policies. Collaborate with research team members and/or co-authors for feedback and co-development of products. Stay up-to-date with relevant literature and integrate findings into the theoretical and empirical contributions of the study.
The Tech Lab (21.4%) Contributing to designing and executing data collection efforts, including troubleshooting problems. Analyzing and interpreting quantitative data, including performing statistical analyses. Mentoring graduate students in this work. Understanding project scope, managing research timelines, and ensuring projects are completed successfully. Work effectively with other researchers, and student mentees. Participate in regular research team meetings. Support and train Youth Advisory Board members. Write reports, publications, conference proposals, and grant proposals.
Lecturer, FSOS 3105- 3 credits (21.4%) Develop and deliver course content for one undergraduate course, including syllabus creation, lectures, assignments, and assessments. Engage and support students through clear communication, regular office hours (virtual or in-person), and timely feedback on coursework. Foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment that supports students from diverse backgrounds and learning needs. Maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, and attendance in accordance with university policies. Collaborate with departmental staff and faculty as needed for course planning and alignment with program goals.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications *
PhD in Family Social Science with one or more years of research trainings Experience working with adolescents and marginalized youth populations Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, including data collection, management, and analysis Advanced qualitative and quantitative analysis skills Familiarity with human subjects' protections and IRB requirements Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently Commitment to anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered research practices Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams Experience teaching undergraduate courses in Family Social Sciences Experience with youth advisory boards or youth participatory action research (YPAR) Experience mentoring students or youth in research activities Experience writing academic publications and/or conference proposals Comfort with platforms such as Qualtrics, Dedoose, NVivo, Mplus, and SPSS
Pay and Benefits
