The University of Minnesota seeks East Asian Studies Librarian in Minneapolis, MN.

Job Duties
Responsible for serving as liaison librarian to collaborate with scholars in humanities and across the university and the East Asian Library utilizing primarily Chinese language material.

Specific duties will be to:

  • Develop strong relationships with faculty, staff, and students in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies in order to understand evolving disciplinary priorities and connect users with needed expertise.
  • Connecting scholars with expertise, including content, copyright, information retrieval and analysis, instructional design, eLearning, digital scholarship, data management, collaboration, knowledge, and use of primary sources for Chinese language materials.
  • Assisting scholars in keeping abreast of development in their fields and facilitating their learning in new and emerging areas.
  • Expanding and enhancing opportunities for scholars to develop critical inquiry skills and values through teaching and learning activities.
  • Using strategies to provide students with tools and instruction to develop the ability to find, critically assess, and manage information.
  • Connecting scholars at all levels and from diverse backgrounds with the expertise they need to be more effective researchers.
  • Actively curating and managing primarily Chinese language material collections that advance the work of scholars.
  • Identifying and fostering opportunities to coordinate Chinese language material collection activities with peer institutions.
  • Discovering and recruiting institutional scholarly output, research data, and other content for including in the University Libraries' digital repositories.
  • Providing vision, direction, and recommendations for spaces that meet the needs of specialized clientele.
Qualifications

Required:

  • American Library Association accredited master's degree in library/information science or related.
  • 6 months of experience in an East Asian-focused library, where such experience includes building and sustaining Chinese language research collections, submitting orders for Chinese language materials, creating web content and online exhibitions in English and Chinese, and searching Chinese language research databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students in research-intensive environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of East Asian Studies research practices and research management of East Asian language materials in multiple formats.
  • Proficiency in Chinese.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $69,000 - $73,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: This is a full-time, 12-month, continuous-appointment track, academic professional position with probationary appointment as a Assistant Librarian rank.
