Job Title: Project Engineer
Summary
|
The Project Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to Cordia's existing plant operations, commercial pursuits of development opportunities (green or brown field), acquisitions, and decarbonization initiatives. This position will be responsible for coordinating technical due diligence for acquisitions; developing conceptual designs for new systems, technical participation in equipment replacement and system expansions; development of preliminary budgets and schedules; and technical support as requested. This position will serve as Project Manager, on large projects, providing technical direction to assigned design efforts pre- and post-award of projects. This role will require coordination with the Cordia commercial sales team, management of all aspects of 3rd party engineering scope and coordinate the efforts of multiple engineers across all disciplines, both internal and external through completion of final design, construction and support during operation.

Principle Responsibilities/Key Results Areas
|
- Participate in the working group during pursuit of project acquisitions. Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead technical due diligence on projects. Prepare and maintain exceptions and clarifications during the process.
- Lead solicitation of proposals and selection of consulting engineers for feasibility studies and preliminary engineering.
- Manager development of performance models to evaluate expected performance characteristics for selected technologies
- Work with outside equipment and system vendors and engineering consultants to develop project scope, budget and schedule
- Develop project Basis of Design (BOD).
- Support development of preliminary financial models
- Interface directly with potential clients and existing customers as needed to support commercial activities.
- Responsibility for assigned project delivery activities of new, District Energy, CHP and Microgrid projects. Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and negotiate commercial agreements with legal and management for consultants
- Review technical bid packages for equipment and contractors
- Review or prepare technical scope for construction bid packages
- Review or prepare technical scope for commissioning contractors
- Prepare technical evaluations and technical recommendations for equipment, engineering consultant selection, and construction contractors
- Select, monitor, support and administer engineering consultant scopes of work.
- Responsible for engineering consultants progress, quality, and cost across all disciplines
- Communicate engineering progress, issues, and recovery plans to management as required
- Develop and manage to a Project schedule
- Develop project reports and status updates to review design, performance, quantities, scope, schedule and deliverables.
- Lead and coordinate constructability reviews between engineering, construction and operations
- Support commissioning and start-up planning and activities as necessary
- Support project closeout and compile and distribute lessons learned
- Assist with fleet operations as required including:
- Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers with review of proposed major repairs and capital improvements with respect to application of proper engineering methods and standards.
- Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers in analyzing operational issues and identification of potential improvements.
- Assist Plant Managers and Plant Engineers in developing plans and budgets for district energy system capacity and distribution expansions required to serve additional customer load.
- Complete studies and analysis to identify optimal capacity additions and distribution expansion.

Requirements
|
Experience and Education
- Seven plus (7+) years of experience working in one or more aspects of the engineering & design, construction and operation of utility, industrial or institutional projects
- Four (4) years of experience serving as lead project engineer or as a member of a project management team with demonstrated responsibility involved in the design and construction of projects in excess of $2,000,000
- Direct experience with power generation equipment including natural gas turbine generators or reciprocating internal combustion engine (RICE) generators
- Direct experience in the areas of district energy systems, combined heat and power, central utility plants, microgrids and utility distributions a plus
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required
- Capable of visiting prospective customers, construction sites, operating industrial plants and industry conferences (up to 20% travel)
Knowledge and Skills
- Exposure to all stages of projects from pursuit, negotiation, award, delivery, startup, to commercial operation.
- Enthusiastic, willing to learn and flexible regarding day-to-day responsibilities

- The ability to work independently and make decisions independently if necessary.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products specifically including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project and SharePoint
- Experience with project management software.
- Experience with construction cost estimating software.
