Position Summary:



Reporting to the Vice Provost for Research Administration, the Assistant Director of Post-Award Finance provides direct professional support and guidance in the administration of grants, contracts, and related funds to faculty and staff. This position will collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs on award management and will implement strategic directions as provided by the OSP and the Provost's Office regarding research administration, faculty affairs, external relations with agencies, policy, and other business operations.

Secondarily, this position will liaise with the Office of the Controller on matters of external financial reporting, inclusive of ensuring compliance with federal award programs and issues related to the annual audit performed per the Provisions of OMB Uniform Guidance. This position provides a high level of client satisfaction through strong relationship management skills and demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly evolving unit.

The role may be considered for a remote work arrangement.



Position Responsibilities:




  • Advise, guide, and assist faculty and administrators in the management of sponsored awards. The Assistant Director is the primary source of expertise to ensure that awards are financially managed following sponsor requirements, regulatory compliance requirements, University, Federal, and State policies and regulations governing sponsored research.
  • Ensure that prior approval requests, progress reports, and other required documentation are submitted correctly and in a timely manner to the sponsor.
  • Provide post-award transactional support for faculty portfolios, including commitment management, projections, cost transfers, and other related grant management tasks. Maintain current knowledge of University and Federal policies, and other grant and contract-related regulations, and perform post-award activities.
  • Assist faculty and staff in the financial management of sponsored projects, interpret award documents, provide appropriate documentation to set up grant/project accounts, and ensure that financial compliance obligations are met.
  • Partner with the pre-award/contracts/award team on complete grant lifecycle management, including crafting projections, identifying risks and delays to spending, requesting budget revisions, amendments, NCEs, and other award modifications.
  • Provide Principal Investigators with regular (no less than monthly) account reports for all sponsored projects.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong working partnerships and effective communications with faculty, Principal Investigators, sponsors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide direction, training, and assistance to Principal Investigators and department staff in award management, including, but not limited to, budgeting and financial statements, interpretation of sponsor terms and policies, and University policies and procedures.
  • Review terms and conditions on award documents as appropriate. Collaborate with the Pre-award team to negotiate award terms, as necessary, and to facilitate agreements, including subcontracts.
  • Play a key role in the development and continuous improvement of the grant management process. Review and analyze client interactions, current methods, and submission quality. Make recommendations for and participate in the implementation of changes as appropriate.
  • Analyze and understand complex information from multiple sources, including funding opportunity announcements, funding interest matches, Federal regulations, and sponsor requirements, in order to manage awards effectively.
  • Keep abreast of laws, regulations, external and internal policies and procedures governing the administration of grants and contracts. Ensure that key personnel are compliant with regulatory, University, and other training mandates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the Controller's Office.



Experience & Educational Background:



Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, or ten years of experience in a business organization or governmental agency performing grants and contracts administration.
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal laws and regulations about grant and contract administration.
  • Sufficient skills in the information technology area to demonstrate acquisition and use of web-based and other computer-assisted systems and procedures.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in business, accounting, or an appropriate field.
  • Direct experience with the grant and contract post-award administration process in an institution of higher education.
  • Thorough working knowledge of database administration and other related software.
  • Experience using a financial system (such as Banner).
  • In-depth knowledge of OMB Circular A-21 & A-110 (Uniform Guidance).
  • Knowledge of current trends in research administration.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well flexibly, independently, and as a contributing member of a team.



Salary Range:



$110,000 - $140,000
