Overview

How you can make a difference

We are seeking a bold, strategic, and highly connected Head of Corporate Communications to lead enterprise-wide storytelling and reputation strategy at HealthEquity (NASDAQ: HQY). This individual will report to and serve as the voice of the CEO, our chief storyteller, and the architect of the enterprise narrative-ensuring alignment, consistency, and execution across all internal and external communication touchpoints. You will help shape the voice of a category leading public company.

This is not a behind-the-scenes role. The right candidate must thrive on being "in the room" and at the table-translating business strategy, industry dynamics, and company performance into clear, compelling narratives for all of our stakeholders: investors, clients, partners, members, media, and teammates

Why Join Us

At HealthEquity, you'll help shape the way millions of people engage with their health and financial future-while playing a key role in telling the story of a company that leads with purpose. You'll work closely with an executive team that values clarity, honesty, and connection-and you'll build a communications function that reflects those values in every word. Step into a role where the strength of a public market leader meets the bold, fast-moving spirit of a mission-driven disruptor. Here, your voice will shape a brand that not only stands out but helps millions of Americans live healthier and more financially confident lives.

What you'll be doing

Own and activate the enterprise narrative and strategic agenda. Develop, refine, and drive consistent storytelling that communicates HealthEquity's strategy, brand, and mission across all channels and stakeholders. This leader will proactively identify and shape key headlines and narratives, bringing forward communication strategies based on insights gained from being an integral part of executive leadership discussions, rather than simply reacting to dictated messaging.
  • Establish and manage the authentic voice of the CEO. Partner closely with the CEO and executive team to craft speeches, scripts, content, and executive-level communication. This involves authentically defining, cultivating, and refining the CEO's voice based on his genuine perspective, inherent values, and strategic priorities, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging across all platforms. This role ensures the CEO's voice is established and managed to reflect who he truly is, not to create a manufactured persona.
  • Lead a unified communications function. Oversee corporate, internal, executive, crisis, media, and external communications-ensuring message discipline and channel alignment.
  • Protect and enhance HealthEquity's and its executive leadership's reputation. Act as a proactive guardian of our external brand, including the CEO's public persona and strategic narrative, ensuring we're recognized as the category leader we are. This extends to strategic reputation management for key executives.
  • Drive enterprise communication governance. Establish standards and rhythms that support clarity, speed, and trust across all messaging.
  • Partner closely with the CMO and Marketing team, who own brand strategy and positioning, to protect and amplify the brand through enterprise storytelling and strategic reputation management.
  • Partner closely with the CPO and People team, who own the teammate experience, to bring that experience to life through internal communications that inform and inspire our distributed workforce.
  • Lead communication planning and execution in partnership with the People Team and Leaders for significant organizational changes (ex. Reorganizations, new systems, etc).
  • Partner deeply across the business. Work across Investor Relations, Legal, Product, and Service teams to align communications with strategy and ensure message consistency. This requires active participation and strategic foresight gained from being an integral part of cross-functional strategic discussions.
  • Lead and coach a high-performing team. Build and inspire a small but mighty comms function that punches above its weight and supports enterprise growth.

What you will need to be successful

  • 15+ years in corporate communications, executive comms, PR/media, or related disciplines, ideally within a public company or regulated industry.
  • Proven experience as the architect of strategic narratives that align with business goals and resonate across stakeholder groups (investors, customers, media, teammates, etc.).
  • Trusted partner to CEOs and executive teams-able to shape content, coach delivery, and serve as a strategic sounding board.
  • Expertise navigating complex, multichannel stakeholder environments (B2B2C, regulated, remote/distributed teams).
  • Crisis communications leadership, with a steady hand in high-pressure, high-impact situations.
  • Ability to lead through influence-aligning leaders and functions to execute unified messaging.
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and strategic thinking skills.

Bonus if You Have

  • Experience in healthcare, financial services, or another highly regulated space.
  • Experience operating at scale with fully remote or distributed teams.
  • Previous success modernizing or centralizing a corporate communications function.
