Job Description

Under direct supervision of more experienced staff, the Associate Engineering Specialist will be responsible for preparing solutions to a wide range of technical problems through the application of standard engineering practices and principles. This role is also responsible for preparing engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, evaluations, or studies and may assist in the preparation of higher complexity work of the same nature. Additional duties may include data and records management, research, project support, and working directly with customers. In this role, project guidelines may need some interpretation and adaptation.



This role upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities, and promotes and supports a culture of total safety.



Additionally, this position may be subject to random DOT drug and/or alcohol testing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs various engineering tasks using applications and tools specific to job assignment and discipline. Examples may include:

    • Assists in the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, and standards.
    • Assists in the preparation of engineering studies to support specific program objectives.
    • Conducts and documents research for system compliance requirements.
    • Assists in the preparation of project cost estimates.
    • Creates and updates job work orders and project documentation including tasks and calculations.
    • Conducts office and field research, measurement and verification of equipment data, and creates and updates equipment records.
    • Reviews engineering and records documents for accuracy and completeness.
    • Performs Data and records management.


  • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Assists others in making updates to department standards, processes, and tools.
  • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
  • Perform JFN process and procedures ("Joint Facility Notification").
  • Knowledge of the NJUNS System (National Joint Use Notification System).
  • Processing Yellow Cards to get our Communication Partners to transfer their facilities.
  • Perform project closings.
  • Permit and TCP creation and submission.
  • Facilitate the removal of stub poles throughout PSE's service territory.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two-year technical degree or equivalent technical certificate in design or pre-engineering, or 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with PC software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Utility operations experience, knowledge of subject matter within assigned area of focus.

The pay range for this position is$70,200.00-$99,800.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
