Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARYThis position serves as a role model whose conduct supports the mission, vision, values, and critical goals of the organization.Under the supervision of the Director, the Supervisor oversees technical staff within Interventional Radiology-Specials. Supervisor assists director with essential department management functions and regulatory and accreditation activities in their area(s) of expertise. Management functions include, but are not limited to, participation in business management activities for their unit, customer service initiatives, direct patient care, and participation in process improvement and integration teams as needed.Supervisor is actively involved in the daily operation of the department and may be required to provide support for different campuses. Participates in the cross-campus integration of the department. Performs data entry operations using appropriate hospital software.This is a working supervisor role. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervises staff in Interventional Radiology and monitors department operations. Troubleshoots staff, patient, and department issues in real time. Refers and escalates department issues to peers and Director appropriately for rapid resolution. Assists staff in creating a positive patient experience for all patients and families visiting Diagnostic Imaging.
  • Plans, establishes, and revises monthly work and PTO schedules. Manages daily staffing needs and flexes staffing to match patient volume. Oversees and maintains responsibility for any scheduling activities performed by lead and staff technologists.
  • Oversees department supply orders and ensures sufficient stock on hand is available for procedures and patient care. Establishes and monitors inventory procurement analysis & review (PAR) levels and adjusts par stock to flex with volume. May coordinate and manage complex supply issues and supply savings initiatives.
  • Assists director with modality and department management. At director's discretion this may include involvement with budget and expense management, policy and procedure development, implementation, and compliance monitoring.
  • Maintains clinical and/or unit competency in Radiology and assists department staff. Provides direct patient care by performing Radiology procedures. Develops and promotes optimal workflow, patient safety, and care standards within the department. Reviews patient identification, orders, and history to ensure correct patient, procedure, and imaging site. Protocols procedure with radiologist as needed. Transports patients to and from the exam room and assists them into position using safe patient handling techniques and equipment. Administers contrast materials as required. The actual percentage of direct patient care may vary daily.
  • Able to initiate emergency response to contrast reaction as needed. Obtains and evaluates images for technical quality assurance factors including image laterality marking and annotation as required by Radiology procedure protocols. Utilizes RIS, PACS and other, ancillary image management systems as needed.
  • Oversees daily quality assurance and quality improvement activities in area(s) of responsibility including, but not limited to, those required by department, American College of Radiology (ACR), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), and Arizona regulations.
  • Monitors status of technology and initiates repair calls as needed. Communicates service delivery issues to director in timely fashion.
  • Oversees image quality, radiation safety and dose monitoring (if appropriate to modality), and clinical service delivery. Troubleshoots all issues in real time and escalates issues to director as appropriate for timely resolution.
  • Participates in team-based discussion and problem solving with staff, peers, and director(s) to identify best practices and opportunities for improvement in the department. Champions and oversees the Daily Management System (DMS) in the department.
  • Interviews, selects, and recommends hiring of new employees and may make independent hiring decisions at director's discretion.
  • Develops and implements department-based orientation and competency programs for staff and any students training in the department.
  • Evaluates staff performance on a routine basis and writes annual staff evaluations for director review. Recommends changes in classification, salary, action, promotion, demotion, transfer, and termination
  • Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with interrelated departments. Participates positively in cross-campus department integration activities. Acts as champion for department initiatives.
  • May participate in multi-facility and/or multidisciplinary committees requiring supervisor's expertise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
EducationAssociate's degree in imaging related field or completion of an accredited military training program in a diagnostic imaging modality. RequiredBachelor's Degree Preferred Experience2 years, clinical modality plus two (2) years formal lead/supervisory experience Required3 years, clinical modality plus three (3) years formal lead/supervisory experience Preferred Licenses and CertificationsRadiology Tech (ARRT) License: ARRT Radiology (R) and a Vascular Interventional (VI) or Cardiac-Interventional (CI) credential upon hire.
