THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively looking to hire a skilled Welder for a position in Bradford County. This role involves performing advanced fabrication and repair work on equipment owned by the Department, utilizing a diverse range of welding techniques and tools. Candidates will be expected to proficiently operate various welding processes, including but not limited to oxygen/acetylene welding, gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and gas metal arc welding. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that encompass welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, and grinding on both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Your expertise will be applied in the repair, modification, fabrication, and customization of an array of heavy construction and highway maintenance equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, single-axle and tandem-axle dump trucks, loaders, trackhoes, backhoes, trailers, and plows. You will be expected to proficiently select appropriate materials, preparation methods, and welding techniques to ensure that repairs are executed safely and effectively, minimizing the risk of failure. Additionally, you will conduct routine maintenance, perform minor repairs, and make necessary adjustments to the welding equipment utilized by the Department, ensuring that all tools remain in optimal working condition.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have or be willing to obtain the welding certification to be able to weld on bridges within the six-month probationary period.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
