Essential Job Duties |
The
Dermatology Service at North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a
motivated and collaborative Research Specialist to join our dynamic team. This role supports innovative research programs focused on uncovering the causes and developing treatments for skin diseases in animals-with direct relevance to advancing human medicine.
As a key member of our interdisciplinary research community, the Research Specialist will contribute to projects that bridge
dermatology, neuroscience, and immunology, fostering scientific discovery and clinical impact. The position plays a vital role in supporting our mission to:
- Conduct impactful basic and translational research.
- Investigate disease mechanisms and evaluate new therapies through clinical trials.
- Train veterinary students, interns, and residents in modern research and clinical methods.
Essential Job Duties:
- Independently design, perform, and analyze cellular and molecular biology experiments.
- Maintain accurate and organized research records; assist in data analysis, grant writing, and manuscript preparation.
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot laboratory methods and protocols.
- Conduct literature reviews to support experimental design and innovation.
- Manage and maintain research sample inventories, including blood biobanks.
- Oversee daily laboratory operations, including safety compliance, equipment maintenance, supply management, and expense tracking.
- Train students, interns, residents, and faculty in laboratory techniques and equipment use.
- Support clinical trials, including IACUC protocol preparation, data collection, and sample analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental goals and priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

Preferred Qualifications |
- Hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation, PCR (including qPCR), gel electrophoresis, ELISA, and cell culture.
- Proven ability to design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot laboratory assays effectively.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with proficiency in maintaining accurate research records and databases.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific information clearly in both written and verbal formats.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic data analysis or graphing software.
