General Summary:

The General Ledger Systems and Management Information Administrator reports to the Controller and is responsible for configuration of the general ledger financial system for the campus, particularly the management of financial system tables, translation rules and structure that supports business processes, financial reporting, and system security. The position is also responsible for monitoring financial system operational and transactional status, identifying and analyzing system-based issues, and designing operational and technical solutions. In the case of general ledger system upgrades or replacement, The General Ledger Systems and Management Information Administrator will act as the GL Campus Liaison and participate in university wide meetings ensuring upgrade/implementation deadlines are met.

Examples of Duties:



  • Lead, train and supervise the Finance Systems Access & Security Analyst on policies and procedures for administration of finance system security access.
  • Manage the campus annual signature authorization process ensuring delegations are appropriate and consistent within finance systems including but not limited to PeopleSoft, BuyWays, and Concur.
  • Oversee & maintain finance systems workflow to ensure spending authorization is in accordance with university and campus policies & procedures.
  • Manage the annual review of security access process across all components of the financial system
  • Maintain financial system tables within the general ledger module, including configuration, control and transactional tables (e.g. budget translation rules table, budgetary control tables, journal sources table, crosswalk table, various chart field tables, operator preferences for general ledger, etc.).
  • Monitor financial system operational and transactional status to identify and then resolve edit and budget checking errors, suspense items, valid posting of interfaces, including the daily cash receipts/disbursements system, weekly student billing, human resources system, and auxiliary recharge systems.
  • Work with senior campus management, campus finance offices, department personnel to support business operations and reporting needs. Design reports to address the financial management information needs and train relevant staff in their production and utilization.
  • Develop and manage financial system structure to support business processes, financial reporting and security, including but not limited to fund-based trees to support GASB and other internal and external reporting requirements, department-based trees to support reporting, budgeting, security and workflow; project/grant-based trees to support reporting, workflow and year-end processing rules; and account-based trees to support reporting and budgeting.
  • Identify, analyze, and document system-based issues and propose operational solutions and/or alternate business processes, within the financial system and other interfacing systems, especially with Human Resources.
  • Support business operations related to the financial systems general ledger, including but not limited to Budget Office, Bursar's Office, Controller's Office, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, Auxiliary Services, and Human Resources.
  • Represent the Boston campus at university-wide forums related to general ledger operations and financial information/reporting, particularly meetings with University Information Technology Services.


  • Provide daily and/or on-call emergency support for operational and functional issues related to the financial systems application.



Qualifications:



  • Applied experience with large ERP systems, PeopleSoft financial system preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical competence in designing and developing data management and information systems.
  • In-depth understanding of financial business processes, including accounting and budgeting.
  • Bachelor's degree in financial management, management information systems/ computer science (Master's degree preferred) or equivalent experience in financial accounting/ budgeting systems required.
  • Proven skills working in both self-managed and team environments, and in managing projects from conceptual design through implementation and follow-up
  • Ability to work in both a team environment and independently.
  • The ability to take initiative and work without regular supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
