- 1st Shift (5:00am-1:00pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional needs for overtime as needed per business need)
Summary Under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Lab Technician is responsible for performing and analyzing various tests related to production at the facility. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Perform microbiological tests, including standard plate count, yeast and mold, coliforms, E.coli, etc. on raw materials, finished products and environmental samples (equipment surfaces, air, water, etc.).
- Perform allergen testing on raw materials, finished products, food-contact equipment, etc. to verify allergen control measures.
- Read the plates, interpret and record results accurately in the appropriate logs.
- Review and verify test results, identify out-of-specification findings and promptly communicate them to management staff.
- Support root cause investigation and corrective actions in response to microbiological deviations.
- Perform routine calibration, verification, and maintenance of laboratory equipment (e.g., incubators, autoclaves, pipettes, etc.)
- Ensure laboratory cleanliness, organization, and compliance with Good Laboratory Practices.
- Participate in proficiency testing programs and internal/external audits as needed.
- Organize all lab results for regulatory and audit readiness.
- Monitor and control laboratory inventory and place orders for all testing supplies.
- Assist in GMP and Glass/Brittle Plastic inspections/audits.
- Cross-train to be back up for Quality Assurance Technician (as needed).
- Other miscellaneous tasks as requested.
Education and/or Experience
- Two year technical college degree with 1-2 years experience or a four year high school education with 2-3 years of experience.
- Analytical background in cheese processing or similar preferred.
- Certification from an accredited Lab Course to meet BRC, SQF, and FSMA is preferred. If not previously obtained, may obtain via DFA and must be completed within 12 months of employment.
Skills And Competencies
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Ability to effectively communicate via email to both internal and external employees and customers.
Effective with MS Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to read and comprehend documents such as product specifications, test results, laboratory manuals, etc.. Ability to effectively present information to other employees in the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
