Overview

Astrion/MEIS is seeking a Power and Mechanical Engineer to join our Space Systems division. MEIS (an Astrion subsidiary) supports NASA Ames Research Center Electrical Power Reliability Office (EPrO). EPrO has been set up to provide electrical power system protection in areas including arc flash calculation, relay coordination, relay programming, settling, calibration, maintenance for NASA Ames electrical distribution systems.

Salary 200-245K/year

US Citizenship required. Requires successful Background check.

EPrO manages the NASA Ames electrical distribution systems and uses SKM software, perform short circuit calculations and relay coordination, arc flash calculations and arc flash labels, relay programing and setting, Relays calibrations and maintenance, EPrO database and updating/baseline drawings. Astrion is looking for a Power and Mechanical Engineer to support the following:

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Perform arc flash and short circuit calculation, relay programming and setting.
  • Review and update the electrical protective relay and breaker trip settings including protective relay device settings, programing, field and bench testing, coordination, and calibration.
  • Print arc flash labels and provide to JCM Electrical supervisor.
  • Maintain and update drive and building power systems SKM master models and ensure the master models are protected from unauthorized access.
  • Perform protection system specifications and relay settings for new projects.
  • Provide engineering support to the relay technicians.
  • Prepare wiring diagrams and schematics for protective relay installations.
  • Support the protective relay technicians on protective relay setting and wiring in the field.
  • Support as necessary on planned and unplanned outages.
  • Review and Maintain A1---0201 E series, Ames one-line meter & relays diagrams include all power monitoring and protection systems.
  • Review and Maintain A1---0906 E series, Ames arc flash and short circuit analysis one line diagrams that include the drive power and building power systems.
  • Submit all device settings to Epro database officer.

Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • PE License and minimum of 10 years of experience in high voltage and medium voltage design, short circuit analysis, and relay coordination
  • Understanding of NASA Ames Electrical Power System
  • Proficient in SKM Software, arc flash calculation and modeling, SEL microprocessor relay program and setting
  • Expert in electromechanical and solid-state relays calibration and setting.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills
  • Onsite 5 days per week, weekend and nights may be required
