VP - Global Medical Lead, HIV - ViiV

Overview

Responsible and accountable for establishing global medical and scientific strategic direction, short and long-term goals and leadership for the overall planning and delivery of the integrated medical affairs plans for the asset, including HIV Treatment and HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis.

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for global medical affairs activities/initiatives, and management of internal (Medical, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory, Health Outcomes, Epidemiology, and other functions) and external (healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, partner organizations, People Living with HIV, and People Who Can Benefit from PrEP) stakeholders.

To lead the global phase 3b/4 and Investigator Initiated Research portfolio. To ensure that internal and external data generated on the products are reviewed and evaluated. Published or presented data that impacts efficacy or safety of the products should be evaluated and appropriate action taken - this can include assessment of label changes, reporting to regulatory authorities, generation of internal and external medical communications, etc. Where appropriate, the GML or designee will lead efforts on education on topics related to these products.

Ensure that data communication is fair and balanced and complies with emerging regulatory and legal requirements. Assure scientific and information needs of external opinion leaders are met. Ensure compliance with all applicable corporate policies and SOPs. Accountable as final signatory for medical and commercial material reviews.

To develop and maintain programs and processes that enhances the capacity and capability of Regional Medical Lead and in-field medical workforce. Help to generate plans to support LOC product launches. This includes selection, training, development, best practices and communications support.

This role will report to the ViiV Franchise Medical Lead. The successful candidate will ideally be based in London, UK or Durham, North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain effective relationships and facilitate the provision of scientific expertise with clinical, marketing, commercial, regulatory, compliance and legal to ensure the creation and delivery of scientifically accurate and compliant medical data.
  • Provide direct expertise, and facilitate medical scientific team expertise for cabotegravir and comparator products.
  • Provide support and systems to maintain standards and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and governance codes or VHL processes.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in the external regulatory and ethical environment and work to partners within VHL to comment on and influence changes when appropriate
  • Provide feedback, input and oversight to ensure contracted Medical Information services provide sufficient resource
  • Ensure the alignment, maintenance and communication of all cross functional Pharma & R&D policies and procedures that support the production and delivery of medical information.
  • Partner with Scientific Communications Lead for the asset to develop strategy for scientific communication plan
  • Review, provide input and work with VIRET on any externally sponsored clinical research proposals related to the asset

Basic Qualifications:

  • MD, PharmD or PhD with specialty in Infectious Diseases or HIV Medicine
  • Extensive global/international medical affairs experience.
  • Local in country medical affairs experience
  • ABPI or equivalent Code of Practice reviewer/signatory status
  • Prior experience of working alongside Commercial operations and other functions such as clinical development and regulatory affairs
  • Experience of launching a product
  • Experience of managing the lifecycle of a product
  • Prior experience of leading a team
  • Prior experience of working in a matrix environment

  • Demonstrated strong influencing skills across and within organizations
  • Excellent communication and negotiation capabilities

  • Established skills and confidence with external scientific presentation
  • A strong understanding or foundation in pharmaceutical drug development
